WIKA TR10-B Resistance Thermometer for Thermowell
Description
WIKA TR10-B resistance thermometer for an additional thermowell
The WIKA TR10-B is a resistance thermometer designed to be fitted into a thermowell that is ordered or already installed separately. It is the practical choice when the plant standard is a particular thermowell design, when the thermowell must be machined from bar stock for high pressure or velocity, or when the sensor needs to be removable without opening the process. WIKA gives a sensor range of -196 … +600 °C [-320 … +1,112 °F] and offers Pt100 or Pt1000 elements. Seven Star LLC supplies the TR10-B in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat, and this page covers the options that have to be fixed before a quotation is possible.
How the TR10-B is built
A TR10-B is assembled from a replaceable spring-loaded measuring insert, a neck tube and a connection head. The neck tube takes the place of a protection tube: it threads into the head on one side and carries the connection to the thermowell on the other, and its length bridges any insulation and keeps a built-in transmitter away from hot process heat. Because the maker lists so many combinations of sensor, head, insertion length, neck length and thermowell connection, the model fits nearly any thermowell dimension. WIKA notes that operation without a thermowell is only recommended for certain applications.

Neck tube, thread and connection choices for the TR10-B
The neck is the part that makes the TR10-B different from a threaded model. WIKA lists the DIN 43772 neck tube in 12 x 1.5 mm, 12 x 2.5 mm and 14 x 2.5 mm, with threads such as G½ B, G¾ B, G¼ B, M20 x 1.5 and M18 x 1.5, compression fittings with metal ferrule, a union nut or a male nut, or a plain tube without thread. A 14 x 2.5 mm tube with counter nut offers ½ NPT and ¾ NPT for US-style thermowells. The double-threaded hex bushing (G¼ B, G½ B or G¾ B to M24 x 1.5 or ½ NPT) gives a short, rigid neck, and the 316 “nipple-union-nipple” (about 22 mm, ½ NPT both ends) allows the head to be turned or the insert withdrawn easily.
| Neck design | Neck length (typical) | Remark |
|---|---|---|
| DIN 43772 neck tube | 150 mm [~6 in]; minimum around 30 mm | Swivel connection to head |
| DIN 43772 plain / with counter nut | 150 mm [~6 in]; minimum around 75 mm | Counter nut variant for NPT |
| Hex bushing, M24 x 1.5 parallel thread | 13 mm [0.512 in] | Head cannot be rotated |
| Hex bushing, tapered thread to thermowell | ~25 mm [1 in] | Short neck |
| Nipple-union-nipple | ~150 mm [6 in]; minimum around 75 mm | 316 material, ½ NPT |
Accuracy, wiring and vibration data
The same IEC 60751 tolerance classes apply as on the other TR10 models: Class B is ±(0.30 + 0.0050 |t|), Class A is ±(0.15 + 0.0020 |t|) and Class AA is ±(0.10 + 0.0017 |t|) in °C, each valid over a defined range. Class A and AA require a 3- or 4-wire circuit, and WIKA advises 4-wire for longer assemblies.
Vibration data in the datasheet refer to the tip of the insert and are tested per IEC 60068-2-6. A standard tip withstands up to 3 g amplitude (6 g peak-to-peak), a vibration-resistant tip 10 g (20 g peak-to-peak), a highly vibration-resistant tip 25 g (50 g peak-to-peak), and an extremely vibration-resistant tip 50 g (100 g peak-to-peak), the last one only for the 6 mm insert. This matters on pump skids, compressor casings and fan ducts, where a standard tip can fatigue.
Connection heads, transmitters and displays
Head options include the BSZ, BSZ-H, BSS, BSS-H and BVS aluminium or plastic versions with M20 x 1.5 or ½ NPT entries, the stainless steel BVS and the screw-lid KN4 type, normally IP65. Cable glands in plastic, nickel-plated brass or stainless steel are available, and the datasheet gives the allowed cable diameters. The T15 and T38 transmitters from WIKA can be mounted in the head cover (preferred) or on the insert. The T38 supports redundancy with dual sensors and the True Drift Detection option with a combined RTD/thermocouple 6 mm probe, error signalling per NAMUR NE043. Selected assemblies with a TUV-certified T38 support SIL applications, and WIKA suggests two TR10-B probes for SIL 3.
Fitting a TR10-B into the thermowell
Match the insert length to the thermowell: the insertion length equals the thermowell length for tip thickness up to 5.5 mm, and the bore should be no more than 1 mm larger than the insert diameter. Gaps over 0.5 mm slow the response. The spring must press the tip onto the bottom of the well. Before commissioning, check the head orientation, tighten the gland, fit the lid gasket and test the loop. Because the insert can be replaced without opening the process, calibration and swap-outs are quick, and a stock of inserts per diameter and length shortens downtime.
Where the TR10-B is used in Oman and the GCC
WIKA lists machine building, plant and vessel construction, energy and power plants, chemical, food and beverage, and heating and air-conditioning technology as applications. In the region this means steam and condensate lines, boiler feed and lube-oil temperature on turbines, heat-exchanger inlets and outlets in refineries and petrochemical units, and cooling-water systems in desalination and district cooling. The thermowell can be chosen in a heavier material or machined design for hot, abrasive or high-flow media, while the TR10-B above it stays standard and easy to replace, which is useful in hot, dusty sites where maintenance windows are short.

The WIKA model number tells you the build. In 232.50, the first digit 2 means stainless steel wetted parts, the second digit 3 means a liquid-fillable case, and ".50" is the case style. The 111 series uses copper alloy wetted parts and suits water and air. Where the medium is corrosive, very hot or would block the gauge, a diaphragm seal such as the 990.27 keeps it away from the Bourdon tube. For temperature, a thermowell like the TW10 lets you remove the sensor without opening the process.
Where WIKA instruments are used
In Oman and the GCC, WIKA gauges, transmitters and thermometers are used in oil and gas, refining and petrochemical plants, power and desalination, water networks, district cooling and HVAC, and on skids and machines from OEMs.

FAQ
Questions about the WIKA TR10-B Resistance Thermometer for Thermowell
Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.
01When should I choose the TR10-B instead of the TR10-C?
Choose the TR10-B when the thermowell is a separate item, for example a bar-stock or flanged design specified by the plant. The TR10-C already includes its own protection tube.
02What temperature range does the TR10-B cover?
WIKA lists -196 to +600 degrees C depending on the accuracy class and design. Class A and AA apply only within narrower ranges.
03How much vibration can the probe tip handle?
The tested tip options run from 3 g amplitude for the standard tip up to 50 g amplitude for the extremely vibration-resistant tip, which is available for the 6 mm insert. Tests follow IEC 60068-2-6.
04What does the neck tube do?
It joins the head to the thermowell connection and bridges insulation. It also acts as a cooling section so a built-in transmitter is protected from high process temperatures.
05Is the insert replaceable?
Yes, the spring-loaded measuring insert is replaceable, and the thermowell stays in the process during calibration or replacement.
