Brand:

Hydac MF and MFD Spin-On Filter, up to 300 l/min and 8 bar

Description

Spin-on filtration for return, suction and low-pressure lines

The Hydac MF is a spin-on filter: an aluminium head with a built-in bypass valve and a screw-on sheet steel cartridge. Changing the filter means unscrewing the old cartridge and fitting a new one, with no housing to open and no loose element to handle. The MFD version carries two cartridges on one head for higher flow.

Sizes MF 80, MF 160 and MF 180 are listed, plus MFD 160 and MFD 180, for flows up to 300 l/min at 8 bar. Where the clogging indicator is screwed in decides whether the unit works as a return line, suction or pressure filter.

Order code and how the indicator position sets the duty

The code in the datasheet is MF BN 160 A U E 10 F 1 .X /-KB: series, media, size, pressure letter A (8 bar), cartridge connection (G or U), port letter, micron rating, indicator letter (A plug, E gauge, F switch, UE vacuum gauge, UF vacuum switch) and a type code from 0 to 8 that describes where the indicator sits. Supplementary details give a bypass pressure (B0.2 for 0.2 bar) or omit the bypass (KB, sizes 160 and 180 only).

Type code 1 and 2 put the indicator on the inlet side for a return line filter. Codes 3 and 4 put it on the outlet side with a vacuum indicator, for a suction filter; those are only for versions with a 0.2 bar bypass or without bypass. Codes 5 and 6 fit both ports for a pressure filter, and 7 and 8 use both sides of the head. MFD has a shorter list (0, 1, 3 and 5).

Cartridges and changing them

Replacement cartridges are coded by size and thread, such as 0160 MA 010 BN. MG cartridges fit filters with the ISO 228 thread and are paper only, apart from the 20 µm BN cartridge for MF 80. MA cartridges fit the UN thread and seal on the outside. The datasheet also notes the inside sealing of the 0080 MA cartridge, so match the cartridge to the head, not only to the size.

Compatible fluids are hydraulic oils to DIN 51524, lubrication oils, compressor oils, biodegradable HETG, HEES and HEPG, and fire-resistant HFA to HFD, with high-water-content fluids on request. Give us the head code and the cartridge code on the old filter when you ask for a quotation.

Where the clogging indicator is fitted decides the duty. For the MF type codes in the datasheet:

Type code Indicator position Duty
0 None, screw plugs in all ports Without indicator
1 / 2 Filter inlet, left / right Return line filter, pressure indicator
3 / 4 Filter outlet, left / right Suction filter, vacuum indicator
5 / 6 Inlet and outlet, left / right Pressure filter, pressure and vacuum indicators
7 Inlet, both sides Return line filter, pressure indicator
8 Outlet, both sides Suction filter, vacuum indicator (sizes 160 and 180)

Where the Hydac MF is used

  • Return lines of hydraulic systems
  • Suction lines
  • Low-pressure lines
  • Lube oil circuits
  • Mobile and industrial hydraulics

Selection checklist for the Hydac MF

  • Flow rate
  • Size, MF 80, 160 or 180
  • One cartridge or two, MF or MFD
  • Filtration rating in micron
  • Bypass cracking pressure
  • Port thread
  • Clogging indicator type
  • Line duty, return, suction or pressure

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the Hydac MF

Fit the head in the line with the flow in the marked direction. Screw in the indicator at the position that matches the duty. Screw on the cartridge by hand and check for leaks. Replace the cartridge when the indicator shows it is clogged. Dispose of the used cartridge with its oil.

About brand

Hydraulic power units around the world carry Hydac parts: accumulators, filters, coolers, valves and the sensors that watch pressure and temperature. The company was founded in 1963 in Sulzbach/Saar, Germany. Seven Star LLC lists Hydac SB330 bladder accumulators, RFM return line filters and the EDS 3400 and ETS 1700 electronic switches, and sources Hydac spare parts for plants in Oman and the GCC.

Hydac product families

Hydac groups its program into hydraulics and filtration (filters, accumulators, sensors and measurement), control technology (valves, control blocks, ball valves), thermal management (air and fluid coolers) and drive technology (pumps, motors, cylinders). The four listed products come from the first group and are common on lube oil skids, presses, turbine control units and mobile machines.

Ordering Hydac parts: what we need

  • Accumulators: full model code, volume, pressure rating, bladder material and the approval required
  • Filters and elements: housing code, element code, micron rating and clogging indicator type
  • EDS and ETS switches: full code with range, output version and connector

By the clogging indicator position: inlet side for a return line filter, outlet side with a vacuum indicator for a suction filter, or both for a pressure filter.
What bypass pressures are standard?
1.7 bar on MF 80 and on MFD, and 2 bar on MF 160 and 180.
Which cartridge thread types exist?
G, an ISO 228 thread, and U, a UN thread, with different cartridge codes (MG and MA).
What pressure is it rated for?
