Delta DT3 Advanced Intelligent Temperature Controller
Description
Delta DT3 series advanced intelligent temperature controller
The Delta DT3 is a single-loop, panel-mounted temperature controller series with a large three-colour LCD, modular function devices and a choice of control modes. Delta describes it as an upgraded design with smart operation, fast response and easy modularisation, with user-defined function keys. The image published for the series shows front panels in several sizes labelled DT320, DT330, DT340 and DT360, which indicates a family of different front-panel formats. Seven Star LLC supplies the DT3 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
The controller accepts a wide range of thermocouple and RTD inputs, which makes it useful on ovens, heaters, presses, sealing bars and similar thermal equipment where one product must cover several sensor types.
How to read the DT3 model family
The page shows the series name only. Ordering codes for individual DT3 controllers (front-panel size, output type, options) are not given on the page, so send us the complete code from your drawing or from the controller nameplate when you enquire.

How the DT3 controls temperature
The controller measures the input signal from a thermocouple or platinum RTD every 0.1 second and compares it with the set value. A control algorithm then drives the output to heat or, in a dual-output arrangement, to cool. Delta lists PID, ON/OFF and manual control, together with FUZZY and self-tuning functions.
PID control suits most heating loops. The self-tuning function lets the controller calculate suitable parameters for the process instead of requiring manual trial and error. Delta states that, with self-tuning and FUZZY control, the controller can be used in both open space and confined space applications and can present a smooth temperature curve. ON/OFF control is kept for simple or non-critical loops, and manual mode lets an operator set the output directly during commissioning or fault finding.
The heater disconnection detection feature is intended to flag a failed heater so that a broken element does not go unnoticed while the process temperature slowly falls.
Where the DT3 sits in the Delta temperature controller range
The DT3 is Delta’s advanced single-loop controller series. For installations that need many zones on one network, Delta offers the modular multi-loop DTM and DTN series, while the DT3 is selected when each loop is controlled by its own front-panel instrument.
Modbus communication lets a DT3 be read by a PLC, SCADA system or a Delta HMI such as the DOP-100 B or DOP-300 S. Retransmission output can send the measured value or set value as an analogue signal to a recorder or monitoring system, and the remote SV input lets a master controller or PLC adjust the set value.
Programmed profiles
The maximum of eight programmable patterns is useful for repeatable heating profiles, for example soak and ramp sequences on a laminating press or curing oven.
DT3 selection and ordering checklist
- Input sensor: thermocouple type (B, E, J, K, L, N, R, S, T, U or TXK) or PT100 / JPT100 RTD, plus the expected temperature range.
- Front-panel size: choose a format that matches the existing cut-out if you are replacing a controller.
- Output type: control output for relay, SSR drive or other actuators, plus alarm and retransmission needs.
- Heating and cooling: confirm whether dual output is required for a cooled process such as an extruder barrel.
- Communication: Modbus connection to PLC or HMI, and whether a remote set value is needed.
- Heater monitoring: state if heater disconnection detection is required.
- Supply voltage as shown on the nameplate of the existing unit.
Installation, tuning and maintenance of the DT3
Panel-mount the controller in a cut-out sized for its front-panel format, and leave clearance for the terminals at the rear. Keep sensor wiring away from power cables and use the correct compensating cable for the chosen thermocouple type; using copper cable on a thermocouple input is a common cause of reading errors.
At commissioning, set the input type and scale first, then run self-tuning with the process in its normal loading condition. Check alarm settings and, where used, the heater disconnection detection. Record the final parameters in the commissioning file so a replacement unit can be configured quickly.
For maintenance, check sensor condition, terminal tightness and output relay or SSR operation at planned shutdowns. Because the unit is modular, function modules can be replaced without changing the whole controller.
DT3 applications in Oman and the GCC
Delta names printing, food packaging, solar panel manufacturing and high-tech electronics machinery as typical DT3 applications. In Oman and the GCC the controller also suits packaging plants, plastics processing, laboratory ovens, heat-sealing equipment and small process heaters. Summer ambient temperatures and dust make the IP66 front-panel protection and a ventilated cabinet worth specifying together.

Delta PLC families and the DVP slim line
Delta's controller program runs from the DVP series through the modular AS series to the AH series. Inside the DVP series, the slim CPUs (among them DVP-SS2, SA2, SX2, SV2 and SE) take slim expansion modules on their right side. The DVP04AD-S2 is one of these: a four-channel analog input module for voltage or current signals, which the CPU reads with FROM and TO instructions.
