Overview

The GasMicro™ Electronic Volume Corrector is a three-in-one measurement device that calculates the corrected volume of natural gas according to AGA7 and AGA8 standards. Whether operators are on the sending or receiving end of a natural gas distribution system, they need assurance that the actual value of transported gas is assessed correctly—which requires not only precise Btu content measurement, but also accurate determination of the actual volume of gas delivered, corrected for temperature and pressure, something a turbine or rotary flow meter alone cannot provide.

Measurement Principle

The GasMicro™ is ideal for both remote-mount and instrument-mount applications. In remote-mount configurations, the turbine or rotary meter sends an electronic signal to the GasMicro instrument representing the volume of gas measured, and the GasMicro then calculates the corrected volume. In instrument-mount configurations, Galvanic’s instrument is mounted directly to the turbine or rotary gas meter through a mechanical instrument drive, generating the electrical signal representing measured gas volume before calculating the corrected value.

In both scenarios, the GasMicro device logs and stores the resulting data in memory for record keeping and ultimately for data distribution. At 25°C, the GasMicro delivers corrected volume accuracy of ±0.05% of reading, pressure accuracy of ±0.05% of reading, and temperature accuracy of ±0.14°C, maintaining ±0.2% accuracy across its full -40°C to 65°C operating range.

Engineering Design of the GasMicro™

The GasMicro™ provides user-friendly GasMicro IMACS® Windows® PC software with point-and-click/drag-and-drop functionality for easy local or remote configuration. Fully configurable Modbus (Enron RTU) communication with three levels of password protection ensures secure, flexible data access and system integration.

Automated options include automated meter reading and reporting, plus configurable alarms capable of initiating automatic dial-out alarm or email notifications. A key reliability feature is the device’s redundant mechanical backup measurement, ensuring continuous measurement even in the event of electronic failure—a critical safeguard for custody transfer applications where measurement continuity carries significant commercial and contractual weight.
