MONITEK ULTRASONIC™ Oil-in-Water & TSS Monitor

Description

Overview

The MONITEK ULTRASONIC™ Oil-in-Water & TSS Monitor is purpose-built for liquids too opaque or oily to monitor effectively with traditional optical-based technology. Galvanic’s acoustic-based products deliver rugged, reliable, real-time results to optimize processes and assure consistent quality and regulatory compliance, with the Monitek family of turbidity and total suspended solids (TSS) monitors ideal for applications requiring detection of suspended solids in samples that typically coat sensors, particles in opaque liquids, and oil in water.

As an authorized supplier of Galvanic instrumentation, Seven Star LLC proudly offers the MONITEK ULTRASONIC™ to wastewater treatment operators, oil and gas produced water facilities, and industrial process plants across the Sultanate of Oman, Muscat, and the wider GCC. Its ability to measure in opaque and photo-sensitive fluids, unaffected by color and insensitive to coatings, gives it flexibility that optical-based monitors cannot match.

Measurement Principle

The MONITEK ULTRASONIC™ employs the principle of ultrasonic reflection for measurement, in which an emitted ultrasonic pulse is reflected by particles in a return echo, which is back-scattered and transformed into an electronic signal. The system detects, evaluates, and then displays the signal as a precise measurement value, with a response time of less than 1 second.

This acoustic-based approach makes the MONITEK ULTRASONIC™ virtually maintenance-free with no wearing parts, since it does not rely on optical clarity or light transmission through the sample. The monitor achieves ±4% of full scale accuracy and repeatability, with ±2% sensitivity and ±4% linearity, across a programmable range up to 1% TSS (0-10,000 ppm).

Engineering Design of the MONITEK ULTRASONIC™

The MONITEK ULTRASONIC™ is a two-component system consisting of modular, fit-for-purpose probes paired with a messenger controller, offering the utmost flexibility to meet the toughest analytical challenges. Various sensor configurations allow installation into process pipes, tanks, or open channels, with standard probes measuring 604mm in sensor length and 269mm in probe length, constructed from 316L stainless steel as standard (with Hastelloy C and other materials available).

The multi-sensor controller delivers 0/4-20mA analog output, a process calibration curve created between two and 16 standards, and measurement frequencies of 5 MHz and 15 MHz. Process insertion is achieved through a pipe adapter with or without a ball valve, allowing easy sensor insertion and removal without process interruption. The controller carries a NEMA 4X/IP65 rating in either fiberglass or stainless steel enclosure options, with a CSA/NEC Class 1, Division 2 rating available using a stainless steel enclosure with Z-Purge.

Key Features

The MONITEK ULTRASONIC™ combines acoustic measurement reliability with flexible installation options. Core capabilities include:

  • Ultrasonic back-scatter reflection measurement unaffected by liquid opacity or color.
  • Programmable range up to 1% TSS (0-10,000 ppm) with selectable measurement units.
  • ±4% of full scale accuracy and repeatability, response time under 1 second.
  • Easy sensor insertion and removal through pipe adapter without process interruption.
  • Virtually maintenance-free operation with no wearing parts.
  • Four programmable setpoint relays with backlit graphic display.
  • Measurement frequencies of 5 MHz and 15 MHz with calibration curve for 2-16 standards.
  • NEMA 4X/IP65 rated controller with CSA Class 1 Div. 2 option (stainless steel with Z-Purge).

Industrial Applications

The MONITEK ULTRASONIC™ is well suited to wastewater treatment plants, oil and gas produced water facilities, and industrial process monitoring across Oman where traditional optical sensors would foul or fail in opaque, oily, or coating-prone process streams. Its insensitivity to color and coatings makes it valuable for refineries, petrochemical plants, and food and beverage processing facilities monitoring oil-in-water content and suspended solids.

As an authorized supplier of Galvanic instrumentation, Seven Star LLC supports wastewater treatment operators, oil and gas facilities, and industrial process plants throughout the Sohar and Salalah economic zones and the broader GCC region with the MONITEK ULTRASONIC™’s rugged, low-maintenance oil-in-water and TSS monitoring capability.
