ProTech903™ Tape-Based H2S/Total Sulfur Analyzer

Description

Overview

The ProTech903™ is Galvanic’s long-established leader in tape-based H2S and Total Sulfur analyzers, continuing to innovate with cost-effective systems that optimize performance in the harshest monitoring environments. Galvanic’s ProTech903™ gas analyzers deliver fast, extremely sensitive, and accurate analysis of H2S and total sulfur, arsine, phosphine, or phosgene, depending on which analyzer configuration is selected.

As an authorized supplier of Galvanic instrumentation, Seven Star LLC proudly offers the ProTech903™ to natural gas sweetening plants, custody transfer stations, and flare-gas monitoring programs across the Sultanate of Oman, Muscat, and the wider GCC. The ProTech903™ family of tape-based analyzers can improve both quality and economics, with low detection limits that outperform other analytical methods in the critical 0 to 15 ppmv application range.

Measurement Principle

The ProTech903™ uses the proven lead-acetate tape method, in which the tape begins to darken at a rate proportional to the concentration of H2S in the sample stream. The analyzer exposes a fresh section of tape to the sample inside the sample chamber approximately every 3-4 minutes, with the system self-zeroing at every tape advance so that calibration is required only every 3-4 months.

A sensor block measures the intensity of light reflected off the lead-acetate tape: a light-emitting diode emits a beam of red light that passes through the rear window and aperture strip, reflects off the tape, and returns to a photodiode detector. As the stain on the tape darkens with H2S exposure, the reduction in reflected light intensity is directly proportional to the H2S concentration in the sample. The analyzer achieves accuracy and repeatability of ±2% F.S. for ranges of 1 to 50 ppm, with a response time of 30 seconds to alarm.

Engineering Design of the ProTech903™

The ProTech903™ is available in H2S-only and Total Sulfur (TS) configurations, with the Total Sulfur option using a 3-way solenoid valve to direct gas either into a total sulfur conversion furnace or bypass it, allowing the analyzer to alternately measure H2S and total sulfur in different ranges. A hand-held keypad provides user interface for system operation, while a PC-based graphical user interface (GUI) offers an alternative for viewing and configuring the analyzer remotely.

The analyzer is available in Weatherproof (W), Division 1 (D1), and Division 2 (D2) enclosure configurations, with dimensions and weight varying by option—H2S-only units range from 20.4 kg (Div 2) to 27.2 kg (Div 1), while Total Sulfur units range from 29.4 kg (Div 2) to 36.3 kg (Div 1). Communication includes Modbus RS232, RS485, optional TCP/IP, Ethernet, and USB, with 6 SPDT relays and 6 analog outputs available for control system integration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What gases can the ProTech903 measure?
The ProTech903 measures H2S and Total Sulfur, and can also be configured for arsine, phosphine, or phosgene detection depending on the analyzer configuration selected.
How often does the ProTech903 need calibration?
The ProTech903 self-zeros at every tape advance, so calibration is typically required only every 3-4 months.
How does the lead-acetate tape measurement work?
A fresh section of tape is exposed to the sample every 3-4 minutes and darkens at a rate proportional to H2S concentration; a sensor measures the change in reflected light intensity to determine the reading.
What enclosure options are available for the ProTech903?
The ProTech903 is available in Weatherproof (W), Division 1 (D1), and Division 2 (D2) enclosure configurations to match different hazardous area requirements.
Is Seven Star LLC an authorized supplier for Galvanic products?
Yes. Seven Star LLC is an authorized supplier of Galvanic Applied Sciences instrumentation in Oman and the GCC, providing genuine products with full support.
