Danfoss 017-140166 RT 116 Pressure Switch 1-10 bar

Description

Danfoss 017-140166 RT 116 pressure switch, 1 to 10 bar

The Danfoss 017-140166 is an RT 116 mechanical pressure switch with a regulation range of 1 to 10 bar and an adjustable differential from 0.33 to 1.3 bar. A bellows element moves a spindle against a set spring, and a single-pole changeover snap contact in an IP66 housing switches a pump, compressor, fan or alarm at the chosen pressure. Because it is purely mechanical and needs no auxiliary supply, the RT 116 remains a common choice for low-pressure circuits in marine, industrial and refrigeration plants. Seven Star LLC supplies the 017-140166 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

The Danfoss product page lists 017-520366 as an identical product, so either code may appear in older documents or on drawings.

How the RT 116 switches

The bellows is connected to the process through the G 3/8 port. Rising pressure compresses the bellows against a main spring whose preload is set by the front knob; the spindle moves a contact arm through a differential setting nut. The knob sets the lowest activation pressure on the scale, and the differential disc sets how far above that the contact must travel before it switches back, so the highest activation pressure equals the lowest value plus the differential. A snap function shears micro-welds between contacts and keeps the switch point independent of load current.

The RT family is designed so that the set point and differential stay constant as long as the housing is within its ambient limits, which are -50 to 70 °C. The data sheet also lists a media temperature window of -50 to 100 °C for the standard bellows version.

Where the 017-140166 fits among RT pressure switches

Within the RT range the 017-140166 sits in the low-pressure band. The RT 112 (for example 017-140266) covers 0.1 to 1.1 bar and the RT 200 (017-140066) covers 0.2 to 6 bar. The RT 5 (017-140866) covers 4 to 17 bar and the RT 117 covers 10 to 30 bar. Choosing the RT 116 means the working set point falls between 1 and 10 bar. Versions of the family with a neutral zone are marked with an L, such as the RT 110L, and are used for floating control with a variable frequency drive.

Selection and ordering checklist for RT 116

  • Cut-in and cut-out pressures, converted to a lower setting plus differential inside 1 to 10 bar.
  • Maximum working pressure of the system, which must stay below 22 bar g, with peaks below 25 bar g test pressure.
  • Medium: check the wetted materials against the material table in the data sheet; the manufacturer points to diaphragm switches rather than bellows types for seawater and strongly pulsating media.
  • Connection: G 3/8 male; other codes in the range use a cutting ring or a weld nipple.
  • Electrical load against the AC-3 and AC-15 ratings, and the need for gold-plated or manual-reset contact sets, which are separate accessories.
  • Marine or class approvals required on the project certificate.

Installation and commissioning

Two fixing holes become accessible when the front cover is removed. The switch can be installed in any position, though on plant with strong vibration it is better to have the cable entry facing downwards. Hold the spanner flats on the pressure connection when fitting a line, so that torque does not reach the bellows. On steam plant insert a water-filled loop to protect the element from temperature above 150 °C in the medium, and with pulsating pressure fit a damping coil. When the set value is changed, use the scale as a guide only and verify the actual switch points with a test gauge.

Typical applications of the 017-140166 in Oman and the GCC

An RT 116 appears on compressed air receivers, cooling-water and fresh-water pressure sets, lube-oil and fuel-oil circuits and small boiler feed systems at oil and gas, power and desalination sites, and on ship and workboat systems along the Omani coast. High ambient temperature is rarely a problem because the housing is rated to 70 °C; the more common issues are dust ingress on cable entries and moisture, which the IP66 rating and correctly fitted Pg 13.5 glands address.

About brand

Danfoss is the Danish engineering group that makes refrigeration and air-conditioning controls, heating components, variable speed drives and mobile hydraulics. Mads Clausen founded it on 1 September 1933 at his parents' farm in Nordborg on the island of Als, after making his first refrigeration expansion valve in 1932. Nordborg is still the group's headquarters, and Danfoss remains controlled by the Clausen family through the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation.

Choosing Danfoss products

For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.

Where Danfoss products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Danfoss drives run pumps, fans and compressors in district cooling plants, water and wastewater stations, desalination and building HVAC. Danfoss pressure switches, transmitters and solenoid valves are built into chillers, refrigeration plants, boilers and hydraulic systems, and AB-QM valves balance chilled-water circuits in large buildings.
