Endress+Hauser PMP43 Cerabar HART Hygienic Pressure Transmitter

Description

Endress+Hauser PMP43 Cerabar HART hygienic pressure transmitter

The Endress+Hauser PMP43 is a compact digital pressure transmitter with a metallic process membrane, designed for hygienic and sterile processes. It outputs 4–20 mA with superimposed HART, measures up to 100 bar, and offers up to ±0.075 % accuracy and process temperatures up to 200 °C. Seven Star LLC supplies the PMP43 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

The PMP43 name covers an ordering family, and the datasheet split by communication gives separate documents for the 4–20 mA analog, 4–20 mA HART and IO-Link versions. This page describes the HART version. The configurator features that matter are the “Application” code (A to D for +100, +130, +150 and +200 °C), the “Fill fluid” code (3 for synthetic oil, 4 for vegetable oil), the accuracy grade (Standard or Platinum), the cell, and the hygienic process connection.

How the PMP43 works

The metal membrane transfers process pressure through the fill fluid to the measuring cell, and the electronics provide the digital HART signal along with the 4–20 mA current. The design is intended for process temperatures that would be too high for a ceramic sensor and for installations where welded, gap-free construction is required.

Heartbeat Technology is built in, giving self-monitoring and verification data for predictive and preventive maintenance. Commissioning is guided by a wizard on the display, and write protection is available through the menu. Bluetooth is encrypted, the device is invisible without the app, and the interface can be disabled on site.

Where the PMP43 fits in the Cerabar range

The PMP43 is the hygienic digital option between the basic PMP23 transducer and the industrial PMP50 transmitter. It adds HART, a display and temperature capability that the PMP23 does not have, and it offers hygienic process connections that the PMP50 does not target. Related items are the weld-in adapters documented separately by the manufacturer.

Material and compliance options include food-contact versions for EU 1935/2004, US FDA CFR 21 and Chinese GB 4806, cGMP declarations, ASME BPE options, TSE/BSE compliance and drinking-water options. These are configured at order and are not implied for every unit.

Selecting the PMP43: ordering checklist

  • Cell range and gauge or absolute principle; the 400 mbar cell has the most limited turn down.
  • Accuracy grade: Standard or Platinum, noting Platinum is not offered on certain flush connections.
  • Application version by maximum process temperature and the matching fill fluid.
  • Hygienic process connection and its certification (3-A, EHEDG, ASME BPE).
  • Display and Bluetooth options, and the operating tools your maintenance team uses.
  • Material compliance statements required by the end customer.
  • Hazardous-area requirements, which must be confirmed against the current approval list.

PMP43 installation, commissioning and maintenance

Install with the connection self-draining and the display aligned for reading; the electronic display can be rotated. Observe the limit that permitted ambient temperature falls as the process temperature rises, using the derating curves for the +130, +150 and +200 °C versions.

  • Configure the range and damping via the wizard; confirm the turn down against the accuracy table.
  • Use a siphon for vapors and keep the transmitter below the lowest measuring point for level.
  • Run a proof test using Heartbeat verification where the loop is part of a documented quality system.
  • Replace the gasket whenever the connection is opened, and respect the clamp or adapter pressure rating.

HART loop checks should use 250 Ω minimum resistance in the loop and a power supply that stays between 12 and 30 V DC at the transmitter terminals.

Typical PMP43 applications in Oman and the GCC

High-temperature sterilisation and CIP loops in food, dairy and beverage plants, pharmaceutical utilities, and clean-steam or hot-water lines at hospitals and industrial kitchens are the natural homes of the PMP43. In the oil and gas, power and desalination sectors it is a good fit for sanitary-style connections on chemical dosing, hypochlorite and antiscalant skids, where an upgraded digital transmitter helps remote diagnosis. Cable entries should be sealed against dust and heavy washdown, and the unit should be shaded where a direct-sun enclosure temperature could approach the ambient limit.

About brand

Endress+Hauser makes process measurement instruments for flow, level, pressure, temperature and liquid analysis. Georg H. Endress and Ludwig Hauser started the business in Lörrach, Germany, on 1 February 1953, first selling level meters, and the Endress+Hauser name has been used since 1957. The group is headquartered in Reinach, Switzerland, and has been wholly owned by the Endress family since 1975.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Endress+Hauser flowmeters, level and pressure transmitters, temperature assemblies and liquid analysis products for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Instruments are matched from the full order code on the nameplate.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.

Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need

The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.

FAQ

Questions about the Endress+Hauser PMP43 Cerabar HART Hygienic Pressure

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.

01What accuracy does the PMP43 reach?
The Standard version reaches ±0.1 % and the Platinum version ±0.075 % reference accuracy on most cells. Accuracy depends on the cell and on the turn down chosen, and the Platinum grade is not offered on some flush connections.
02What is the maximum process temperature of the PMP43?
Four application versions exist: up to +100, +130, +150 and +200 °C. The +200 °C version requires the vegetable-oil FDA fill fluid, while the synthetic oil covers –40 to +130 °C.
03How is the PMP43 operated?
It has a colour display with backlight and touch control. Bluetooth is optional and works with the SmartBlue app, and HART operation works with DeviceCare, FieldCare, AMS and PDM.
04Is the PMP43 suited to CIP and SIP?
Yes. It has a fully welded design and IP66/68/69 protection with an M12 cable, and the datasheet states that 3-A and EHEDG-certified versions can be cleaned in place without removal, within the pressure and temperature limits.
05What supply voltage and signal does the PMP43 use?
The listed version is a two-wire 4–20 mA HART loop on 12 to 30 V DC. HART acyclic response is typically 590 ms, with a 250 Ω load assumed for the specified performance.
