Böhler Welding TERRA NX 400 SMC MIG/MAG Welding Machine

Description

Three-phase MIG/MAG inverter with built-in wire feeder

The Böhler Welding TERRA NX 400 SMC is a MIG/MAG welding machine with inverter technology and a three-phase supply. According to Böhler Welding, it combines the power source with a built-in wire feeder unit, offers MIG/MAG welding with two proprietary welding processes, and stores up to 240 personalized programs, called jobs. The machine is built around the Inverter ThreeLevel technology by Böhler Welding, with digital CANBUS communication at 500 Kbs.

Welding current is adjustable from 3 to 400 A. The wire drive is a four-roll motorgear that takes wire spools of 200 or 300 mm diameter, with a wire speed of 0.5 to 22.0 m/min.

Choosing the wire feeder version

The data sheet lists three wire feeder versions with the same power source. WF NX CLASSIC has an LED panel and no stored programs. WF NX SMART adds 18 welding programs. WF NX STEELDRIVE has a 3.5 in colour graphic LCD, up to 600 programs in total, 240 personalized jobs and the additional RapiDeep process alongside ArcDrive, and a slightly stronger 120 W wire drive. Main MIG/MAG functions named for the family include welding speed, arc dynamic, spot welding, crater filler and MIG bi-level, with the exact set depending on the version.

The standard torch choice is a liquid-cooled MT 440 W, which means the cooling unit WU 330 is part of the working package. A trolley, GT 500 or GT 700, carries the power source and cooling unit.

Supply and installation points

With a maximum input current of 30.1 A and a 25 A slow blow fuse, the machine needs a three-phase 400 V connection with a suitable cable (4 x 3 mm2, 5 m supplied length as listed). The IP23S protection class is for use where the machine is not exposed to direct rain. Confirm the generator or mains capacity against the 20.9 kVA maximum input power before commissioning on a remote site.

About brand

Böhler Welding is the welding consumables brand of voestalpine Böhler Welding, part of the voestalpine group, with a portfolio that covers stick electrodes, TIG rods, solid wires, gas-shielded and self-shielded flux-cored wires and submerged-arc wires and fluxes. The company states more than 100 years of experience. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Böhler Welding consumables and welding machines, including pipeline electrodes, and sources Böhler Welding consumables for fabricators and pipeline contractors.

Böhler Welding product groups

Beyond the consumables above, Böhler Welding lists strip cladding, wire arc additive manufacturing, metal powders, arc spraying cored wires, ceramic weld backing, brazing consumables and welding automation such as orbital welding and collaborative robots. The pipeline range includes cellulosic FOX CEL electrodes and basic vertical-down FOX BVD electrodes for large-diameter line pipe.

Ordering Böhler Welding consumables: what we need

Give the product name, the AWS or EN classification, the diameter and length, and the packaging you need. For pipeline electrodes also state the pipe grade, wall thickness, welding position and whether sour-service test values are required, because the Böhler Welding data sheets note that some test values are available on request.
