Digital pulse MIG/MAG for demanding fabrication

The REHM MEGA.ARC P 450 WS is the largest water-cooled, separate-feed-case version of REHM’s MEGA.ARC P series of fully digital pulse MIG/MAG machines. The series is intended for fabricators who weld steel, stainless steel and aluminium at higher current and want to control heat input and spatter. REHM quotes up to 460 A, with 400 A at 100 % duty cycle for the 450 class.

The machine carries four digitally controlled processes: POWER.ARC for standard welding, POWER.PULS for pulse and double-pulse work on steel, stainless and aluminium, FOCUS.ROOT for thin-material and root welding with almost no spatter, and FOCUS.ARC for a short, deep-penetrating arc. REHM states that FOCUS.ARC can cut grinding dust by up to 80 % and rework by up to 80 % in suitable applications, which is the manufacturer’s claim and depends on the job.

Operation is through the SIRIUS display, with graphic visualisation, assist functions and, per REHM, readiness for Industry 4.0 connection with freely configurable interfaces.

Options listed by REHM include the Profi and Advanced 50 l undercarriages, a trolley, an upright stand, an air pre-filter, a toolbox, crane lifting lugs for the feed unit and shock-proof display covers. The 1.2 mm wire is common for this class, but the brochure lists 1.0 and 1.2 mm only.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm the three-phase 400 V supply and 32 A fuse, the torch and cooling arrangement, and which undercarriage or trolley suits the workshop. State the materials and thicknesses so the right pulse or FOCUS process can be considered. If fume extraction or robot integration is planned, tell us so the interface options can be checked.

The 450 class is the right size when high current and long arc-on time are routine. Where most work is thin or medium plate, the 300 and 350 sizes of the same series, rated by REHM at 280 A and 320 A at 100 % duty, are lighter alternatives. The feed case versions (S and WS) keep the heavy power source on the floor while the wire feed unit sits closer to the joint, which helps on large assemblies.
