Migatronic Sigma Core 550 MIG/MAG Welding Machine

Description

High-amperage MIG/MAG machine reduced to the core welding functions

The Migatronic Sigma Core 550 is the largest size in the Sigma Core range, a MIG/MAG welding machine that Migatronic built for light and heavy steel construction, prefabrication and thick mild-steel plate. The idea behind the range is simplicity at high current: a graphic control panel that shows only amps, voltage and wire feed speed, no unnecessary software, and a duty cycle high enough for a team of welders to keep working for hours without derating.

The 550 is available as a compact machine (C) with the wire feeder built into the cabinet, or as a separate version (S) that drives an MWF 32 wire feeder through an interconnection cable of 1.5 to 30 m. Both versions can run air-cooled torches or water-cooled torches with the optional MCU 1300 cooling unit.

Sigma Core sizes and configurations

Migatronic lists five power ratings. The smaller 230 and 270 sizes are compact only and use tacho-controlled four-roll wire feeding in the latest cabinet design.

Model Versions Current range Duty cycle 100% at 40 °C Fuse
Sigma Core 230 C 15-230 A 230 A at 40% 10/16 A
Sigma Core 270 C 15-270 A 270 A at 28% 10/16 A
Sigma Core 300 C and S 15-300 A 220 A 16 A
Sigma Core 400 C and S 15-400 A 300 A 20 A
Sigma Core 550 C and S 15-550 A 430 A 35 A

Choosing between compact and separate wire feed

A compact machine suits a fixed welding booth or a station next to the work table, where the torch length (3 to 6 m) sets the working radius. A separate wire feeder is the better choice on large steel structures, where the welder carries the feeder away from the power source. For long arc-on times at high current, such as thick fillet welds with 1.2 mm or larger wire, water cooling reduces torch heating.

Software updates are loaded by SD card, and an optional lock card can lock the control panel at two levels so that recurring welds use the same settings. Options also include Intelligent Gas Control, which limits gas over-consumption at ignition, Smart Torch modules for adjusting parameters at the torch handle, and MIG-A Twist torches with a swan neck that turns in 15° steps.

Documents and quotation

The attached Migatronic Sigma Core brochure contains the technical data for all five sizes together with the MWF 32 wire feeder and MCU 1300 cooling unit. For a quotation, state the size, compact or separate version, cooling, torch and interconnection cable lengths, and the mains supply. More machines are listed under MIG/MAG welding machines.

About brand
Migatronic is a Danish welding machine maker based in Fjerritslev, and its machines are built for professional welders, with a focus on welding power sources and the torches that go with them. Seven Star LLC lists the Migatronic CenTIG Pro TIG welding machine and supplies Migatronic welding equipment to fabrication workshops and site contractors in Oman on inquiry.

Migatronic CenTIG Pro

Migatronic builds the CenTIG Pro as a TIG machine for production welding in two sizes, 300 A and 400 A. Each size is made as a DC machine or an AC/DC machine, and with air or water cooling. The AC/DC versions are the ones for aluminum, and the manufacturer points to their AC waveform control. The machines also weld with stick electrodes (MMA) and run on a 3 x 400 V mains supply. Because several versions share one name, the exact version must be named when asking.

Ordering Migatronic machines and parts: what we need

Send the machine name and version, the welding current needed, DC only or AC/DC, the mains voltage and phase at your workshop, the torch type with air or water cooling, and the cable length. For spare parts, add the serial number from the rating plate. Workshops across the GCC should state their supply voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the current range of the Sigma Core 550?
15 A to 550 A in MIG/MAG mode.
What is its duty cycle at 40 °C?
430 A at 100%, 510 A at 60% and 550 A at 50%, according to Migatronic.
What is the difference between Sigma Core C and S?
C is a compact machine with built-in wire feed; S uses a separate MWF 32 wire feeder on an interconnection cable of 1.5 to 30 m.
What mains supply does it need?
3 x 400 V +/-15% at 50-60 Hz with a 35 A fuse.
Can it be used with water-cooled torches?
Yes. The optional MCU 1300 cooling unit (1300 W, 5 l tank) supports water-cooled torches on both versions.
