AMETEK Land LANDMARK LMG MkII Signal Processor

Description

AMETEK Land LANDMARK LMG MkII signal processor

LANDMARK LMG MkII is the Landmark Graphic MkII, a panel-mounted signal processor for System 4 infrared thermometers. It takes the raw signals from up to four thermometers, conditions them in real time and presents temperature on a colour touch screen, while delivering isolated current outputs, relay alarms and RS485 serial data to the control system. Seven Star LLC supplies the LANDMARK LMG MkII in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat, together with the System 4 thermometers it is built to drive.

The unit is configured with between one and four independent, individually isolated I/O channels, so the processor model number tells you how many thermometers it can serve. The manufacturer’s “Examples” list shows the pattern: LMG MkII 1000-0 is the minimum system for one System 4 thermometer, 1100-0 connects two, 1110-0 three and 1111-0 four, while a trailing “-2” (for instance 1100-2 or 1111-2) indicates that the maths I/O card is fitted. Codes starting with 7 are for HotSpot sensors.

How the LANDMARK LMG MkII processes the signal

All channels run in parallel rather than being multiplexed, so a fast event on one thermometer is not missed while another is being read. The digital signal path provides the conditioning functions needed on a hot process: a peak picker that holds the highest value for intermittent targets, an averager that smooths unwanted fluctuation, and a track-and-hold function. The graphical display makes setting these straightforward, with context-sensitive on-screen buttons, and the language can be changed by the user.

The optional maths card unlocks calculations across channels: maximum, minimum, mean, difference and range, and background correction. The manufacturer gives three typical uses: monitoring temperature uniformity across a web with an array of four thermometers, compensating for background reflection with a second sensor, and taking the difference between two thermometers aimed at the same spot.

Where LANDMARK LMG MkII fits with System 4 thermometers

The LANDMARK LMG MkII is one of four Landmark processors. The others are the Landmark Technic (a DIN-rail digital processor with the same 0.12 % accuracy, 0 to 20 or 4 to 20 mA output), the Basic processor, and the LMi indicator family. The LMG MkII is the choice when a visual display, several channels and relay alarms are needed in one panel cut-out. Card slot 1 supports System 4 thermometers in the M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6, M7, M8, R1, FTS, VDT and MZ types. Accuracy quoted for System 4 thermometers assumes a Landmark Technic or Graphic processor; the Basic processor adds 50 % to the stated uncertainty. For individual thermometer details see the System 4 page, and for a standalone 4 to 20 mA instrument consider UNO or SOLOnet.

Selecting and ordering the LANDMARK LMG MkII

  • Channel count: one, two, three or four thermometers, which sets the 1000, 1100, 1110 or 1111 part of the code.
  • Maths card: needed for uniformity, difference or background-correction calculations (-2 variants).
  • Thermometer type: confirm that the connected sensors are System 4 models or HotSpot sensors; they select different configurations.
  • Outputs: whether 0 to 20 mA or 4 to 20 mA is needed by the DCS or PLC, and how many alarm relays per channel.
  • Supply: a 24 V DC supply is required; the instrument includes provision for international approvals as listed by the manufacturer.
  • Cut-out: a direct replacement for an older LMG fits the same panel opening and connector plugs.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance

Fit the unit in a clean control panel or console, supply 24 V DC and wire each thermometer to its channel terminals; the rear label shows thermometer, output, command and alarm blocks per channel plus the RS485 port. Use screened cable for thermometer runs. During commissioning set the output span, alarm limits, peak-picker and averager values per channel and confirm the display reading against the thermometer’s local reading. Keep the processor out of direct heat; the supplied protection cover is an option for exposed locations. Back up configuration when changing I/O cards, and hold a spare processor where a line depends on it.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

Multichannel Landmark processors suit reheating furnaces, glass tempering and annealing lines, and heat-treatment lines where several points are monitored from one panel. In control rooms in Oman the 24 V DC supply is easy to take from an existing rack supply, and the touch screen is useful for operators who need to see all four channels at once. Panels exposed to dust or high summer room temperature should be ventilated and kept clean.

About brand

AMETEK is the American maker of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices, headquartered in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1930 as American Machine and Metals. In process industries it is known through brands such as Western Research (sulfur recovery and H2S analysers), Thermox (oxygen analysers), Land (pyrometers), Drexelbrook (RF level) and Chandler Engineering.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list AMETEK process analysers, pyrometers, portable testers and spare parts, and supply them to gas plants, refineries and power stations in Oman and the GCC.

120HD, Ranarex, Drexelbrook RCT-1210 Portable analysers and level Hydrogen purity in generators, gas specific gravity, RF level measurement

Most of these analysers work on light absorption. UV analysers such as the 933 and 9900 measure H2S and SO2 by their absorption bands, and tail gas analysers use this to keep the H2S to SO2 ratio near 2:1 for the best Claus conversion. TDLAS moisture analysers use a tuned laser on a single water line, so they respond fast and do not suffer from the glycol and methanol contamination that affects sensor-based analysers.

Where AMETEK instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, AMETEK analysers run on gas processing and sulfur recovery units, gas pipelines and custody points, refinery heaters and boilers, power station generators and steel and cement furnaces.
