Endress+Hauser TM152 iTHERM Imperial Barstock Thermometer
Description
Endress+Hauser TM152 imperial barstock thermometer, ASME and NPT
The Endress+Hauser TM152 is the imperial-dimension version of the iTHERM ModuLine barstock thermometer. The datasheet describes it as an imperial RTD or thermocouple thermometer with a barstock thermowell, for universal use, with a measuring range of –200 to +1,100 °C and pressure up to 500 bar (7,252 psi). Where the metric TM151 follows DIN and ISO threads, the TM152 follows US practice: NPT threads, inch immersion lengths and ASME B16.5 flanges.
Seven Star LLC supplies the TM152 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat. In this region many plants were engineered to API and ASME standards, so the TM152 is often the cleaner fit for replacement of existing inch-dimension thermowells and for projects that carry US-style piping specifications.

How the TM152 thermowell is built and sized
The thermowell is drilled from barstock, with a straight, tapered or stepped profile defined in inch dimensions. The datasheet lists pre-defined geometries that combine the thermowell standard, the process connection and the wetted-part shape; one example is a 7/8 in (22.23 mm) root with a tapered 5/8 in tip and a 6.6 mm bore on a flanged NPT 1/2 connection, so a standard shape can often be used instead of a custom well. Variables in the drawings are the immersion length U, lagging length T, neck length E, total length L and the bottom thickness B, which defaults to 6.35 mm (0.25 in).
Thermowell strength depends on flow velocity, vortex shedding, pressure and temperature, so every installation should be calculated. The manufacturer provides a thermowell sizing module in its online applicator; the datasheet cites it. Do not skip the check on gas, steam and high-velocity lines, because long wells in fast flow are where resonance risk is highest.
TM152 process connections, flanges and options
- NPT threaded thermowells in half-inch to one-and-a-half-inch sizes, with wrench-flat sizes stated per size
- ASME B16.5 flanges, with raised-face height of 1.6 mm for class 150 and 300 and 6.4 mm from class 600
- Socket-weld and weld-in versions based on NPS pipe sizes, up to 500 bar
- iTHERM TwistWell thermowell with flange as a separate configuration
- Extension neck with fixed or iTHERM QuickNeck design; second process seal (Dual Seal) as an option
The head side is common to the whole range: terminal heads to DIN EN 50446 with M24x1.5 or 1/2 NPT thread, aluminium or stainless, with a transmitter, display or M12 plug as options.
TM152 and TM151: choosing between imperial and metric
| Item | TM151 | TM152 |
|---|---|---|
| Dimension system | Metric (mm) | Imperial (inch) |
| Typical threads | M20x1.5, M27x2, M33x2, G, NPT | NPT 1/2 to 1-1/2, G 1/2, G 3/4 |
| Flanges | ASME B16.5 per datasheet | ASME B16.5 per datasheet |
| Thermowell basis | DIN 43772 form 4 and NAMUR geometries | ASME-based pre-defined versions |
| Pressure | Up to 500 bar | Up to 500 bar |
The two share their electronics and inserts, so the choice follows your piping standard, not performance. Spares such as inserts are specified by insertion length rather than model alone.
Selection and ordering checklist for the TM152
- Line size (NPS), schedule and flange class and facing, or NPT size
- Design pressure and temperature, medium and flow velocity
- Thermowell profile, root and tip diameter, bore, immersion length in inches
- Thermowell material and certificate requirements
- Sensor: Pt100 class AA or A, or thermocouple K, J or N; single or dual
- Neck: fixed or QuickNeck; Dual Seal if required
- Head, display, transmitter protocol and hazardous-area classification
- Calibration certificate and traceability level
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the TM152
Seal NPT threads with a compound suitable for the temperature, and do not over-torque a conical thread, because the thread is also a pressure boundary. Flanged wells should be installed with the gasket and bolt specification of the line. After the pipework test, fit the insert, check that spring pre-load seats the tip on the bottom of the bore, and wire the loop.
During service, a replaceable insert can be swapped without opening the line. Re-calibrate in a block calibrator or bath, with the insert immersed deeper than the minimum immersion length stated for the calibration temperature. Quote the unit serial number for spares, as the insertion length is derived from it.
TM152 applications in Oman and the GCC
The TM152 is the natural choice in plants built to American practice: gas processing and compression, crude stabilisation and export, refineries, LNG and downstream petrochemicals, power plants, and utilities using ASME piping. Hot desert days and salty air call for stainless heads and sealed entries, and the high pressure rating covers gas lift and injection headers as well as steam. For retrofit work the inch geometry lets a replacement thermowell match existing bores and flanges.

Documents and quotation
The manufacturer technical information for the TM152 is attached to this page. Read it together with your project specification, because the thermowell, sensor, head and transmitter options that apply to your tag are fixed by the order configuration, not by the model name alone. Approvals and ratings should always be checked against the exact configuration that is quoted.
Seven Star LLC quotes against your data sheet or loop drawing and confirms lead time, stock position and the documents that ship with the instrument. Send us the details listed above and we will respond with a priced offer for delivery in Oman and the wider GCC.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used
In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.
Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need
The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.

FAQ
Questions about the Endress+Hauser TM152 iTHERM Imperial Barstock
Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.
01What is the Endress+Hauser TM152?
It is the imperial-dimension iTHERM ModuLine thermometer with a barstock thermowell. It uses NPT threads and ASME flanges and takes a replaceable RTD or thermocouple insert.
02What are the TM152 temperature and pressure limits?
The datasheet states a measuring range of –200 to +1,100 °C and a pressure range up to 500 bar (7,252 psi), depending on the sensor, thermowell and connection.
03Is the TM152 the same as the TM151?
They share electronics, inserts and the barstock concept. The TM151 is metric with DIN and ISO threads, while the TM152 uses inch dimensions, NPT threads and ASME flanges.
04What is the default thermowell bottom thickness on the TM152?
The datasheet gives 6.35 mm (0.25 in) as the default bottom thickness. Other values can depend on the thermowell version, so confirm them at quotation.
05How should the TM152 thermowell be checked for strength?
Use the thermowell sizing calculation in the manufacturer applicator tool, with your pressure, temperature, medium and flow velocity. Fast gas and steam lines need special care.
