Orbitalum GF 12 Pipe Cutting and Beveling Machine

Description

Planetary pipe saw for larger process pipe

The Orbitalum GF 12 is the largest of the Orbitalum GF pipe cutting and beveling machines. It clamps pipe from 157 to 325 mm OD (6.2 to 12.8 in) with wall thickness from 2 to 10 mm, depending on material. The pipe stands still while a small saw blade is plunged and guided orbitally around it, so a large pipe is cut without heating and the end is right-angled, burr-free and ready for automated orbital welding.

Orbitalum lists materials from stainless and other alloyed steels, with a speed range suited to Hastelloy and P91, through unalloyed steel, cast pipe, aluminium, brass and copper to plastics. A multipoint clamping system holds thin and thick-walled pipe without deformation, and electronic speed regulation of 40 to 215 rpm keeps the blade speed constant under load. Bevelling can be done during the cut or as a separate pass.

Manual, MVM or AVM feed

The datasheet offers three feed versions. The basic machine is fed by hand. The MVM adds a handwheel so the machine head rotates around the pipe with little effort and at a more even feed. The AVM adds an automatic feed whose controller monitors feed against the required output, switches itself off when the cut is complete and has a restart inhibitor against unintended start-up. Stainless steel clamping-jaw attachments are included for added corrosion protection.

The scope of delivery is a transportation case, one saw blade (code 790 043 018), mounting plate, line laser with batteries, tool key set, GF TOP blade lubricant, special gear oil and operating instructions. At about 139 kg the GF 12 is normally set on a bench or stand, and the smaller Orbitalum GF 6 covers pipe up to 168.3 mm OD.

What to confirm before ordering

Check the pipe OD and wall against the 157 to 325 mm and 2 to 10 mm limits, and the minimum ID for the blade you plan to use. Choose between the manual, MVM and AVM versions, and between the 230 V and 120 V supply. State the materials and the number of cuts so the saw blade type and quantity can be specified. The GF 8 shares this datasheet and covers 114 to 230 mm pipe.

About brand

High-purity tube work depends on two things: a square, burr-free cut and a weld that comes out the same every time. Orbitalum Tools, founded in 1960 and based in Singen, Germany, makes the machines for both steps. Seven Star LLC supplies Orbitalum pipe saws, tube facing machines and orbital welding systems to fabricators and site contractors in Oman, and many of these machines are listed on this page.

Orbitalum cutting, facing and welding machines

The listing follows the workflow on the tube. Cutting comes first: the GFX 3.0 pipe cutting and beveling machine and the portable PS 4.5 Plus pipe saw. The RPG 4.5 then squares and faces the tube end ready for a butt weld without filler.

On the welding side, the Mobile Welder and Smart Welder Plus are orbital TIG power sources that store and run the weld program. They drive the weld heads:

  • ORBIWELD 17 and ORBIWELD 19, enclosed micro heads for small-bore tube
  • ORBIWELD TP, an open head for pipe
  • P16 EVO, for tube-to-tube-sheet welds
  • DVR M, a rotary device that turns the workpiece under a fixed torch

Where Orbitalum equipment is used

Orbital welding and tube preparation of this kind are used wherever a weld has to be repeatable and documented: semiconductor gas lines, pharmaceutical and biotech process piping, food and beverage plants and heat exchanger manufacturing. In the GCC that translates into clean utility and process piping in pharmaceutical and dairy plants, instrument and analyzer tubing, gas distribution lines and tube-sheet work on heat exchangers.

Ordering Orbitalum machines: what we need

Tell us the tube or pipe outside diameter range, wall thickness and material first, because every Orbitalum machine has a defined working range. For a saw or facing machine, add the mains voltage or battery version and the blade or tool bit type. For welding, state the joint type (tube to tube, fitting, tube sheet), whether filler wire is needed, the power source you already own and the clamping shells or collets by diameter. For spare parts, send the machine type, serial number and the part code from the manual. We check the selection against the manufacturer's documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
