Selectarc Ni617 ENiCrCoMo-1 High-Temperature Nickel Electrode
Description
Nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum electrode for high temperatures
The Selectarc Ni617 is a basic coated nickel-base electrode with an alloyed core wire, intended for joining and repairing heat-resistant alloys that operate at temperatures up to 1100 °C. It is classified AWS A5.11 ENiCrCoMo-1 (modified), ISO 14172 E-Ni 6617 (NiCr22Co12Mo), UNS W86117.
The deposit combines about 21% chromium, 11% cobalt and 9% molybdenum with small additions of aluminium and titanium, an alloy concept that gives high creep strength and oxidation resistance. Selectarc describes a soft arc, easy slag removal and regular weld beads.

Furnaces, heaters and gas turbines
Main applications listed by Selectarc are gas turbine construction, combustion chambers, ovens and heat-treatment equipment, and petrochemical installations. The base materials named on the data sheet are alloy 800H (N08810, 1.4958), the heat-resistant steel X8NiCrSi38-18 (1.4862), alloy 601 (N06601, 2.4851) and alloy 617 (N06617, 2.4663).
In refining and petrochemicals, this type of filler is used on reformer and cracking furnace components, outlet manifolds, burner parts and other items exposed to high-temperature oxidising or carburising atmospheres. It is also a frequent choice for dissimilar joints between alloy 800H/HT and other heat-resistant materials, where a matching high-strength nickel deposit avoids the weld becoming the weak link in creep.
Welding and repair procedure
Joints must be clean and free of grease and cracks. Use a short arc with a slight electrode inclination and keep heat input low with stringer beads, weaving no wider than twice the core wire diameter. Redry for 1 hour at 250–300 °C. Nickel-base alloys are welded without preheating and with an interpass temperature below 150 °C.
For repair welding of steels with high carbon content, Selectarc specifies a preheat between 200 and 500 °C. According to the data sheet, a post-weld heat treatment can be carried out without affecting the deposit, which is useful when repaired components must be stress relieved. On service-exposed parts, remove oxide scale and carburised layers completely before welding, since they promote cracking and poor fusion.
High-temperature nickel welds are prone to solidification cracking if the bead shape is too concave or the crater is left unfilled, so fill craters fully and keep beads slightly convex. Where creep-rupture properties are part of the design basis, ask the designer which filler classification the code calculation assumes, because ENiCrCoMo-1 and ENiCrFe type fillers differ markedly in long-term strength.

About brand
Selectarc is a French manufacturer of welding and brazing filler metals, headquartered in Grandvillars, France. Its welding activity began in 1952 with Selectarc Industrie, a plant making covered electrodes, and the business is the welding and brazing division of the family group Viellard Migeon & Compagnie. In 2025 Framatome took a 40% stake in the company.
Selectarc welding and brazing products
The welding range covers covered electrodes for carbon, low-alloy, stainless and nickel-base steels, MIG and TIG wires, flux-cored wires and hardfacing products, with brazing alloys made at the former Reboud-Roche foundry. Selectarc lists the nuclear, defence and aerospace industries among its key markets, and welding production is concentrated at its Grandvillars site, which also houses the research laboratory.
Ordering Selectarc filler metals: what we need
Give the product name, for example Selectarc Ni625, and the AWS or ISO classification in your procedure, the diameter and length, and the quantity. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, checks the grade against the Selectarc technical data sheet and can provide the data sheet and the certificates issued with the order on request.
