Dräger X-am 2500 Multi-Gas Detector
Description
Overview
The Dräger X-am 2500 was especially developed for use as personal protection, reliably detecting combustible gases and vapours as well as O2, CO, NO2, SO2, and H2S in a single 1-to-4 gas monitor. Reliable and fully mature measuring technology, durable sensors, and easy handling guarantee a high degree of safety with extremely low operating costs.
As a trusted supplier of Dräger safety equipment, Seven Star LLC proudly offers the X-am 2500 to mining, oil and gas, chemical, fire, and hazardous response applications across the Sultanate of Oman, Muscat, and the wider GCC. Its ergonomic design and dual-button operation make it a trusted choice for personal air monitoring and confined space entry.
Measurement Principle
The X-am 2500 combines an innovative catalytic Ex sensor with electrochemical DrägerSensors for CO, H2S, O2, SO2, and NO2, all in an extra-small format. The catalytic Ex sensor offers high drift stability with strong resistance to silicone and hydrogen sulfide, an expected service life of more than five years, and is approved for measuring from methane to nonane per IEC/EN 60079-29-1—demonstrating its suitability for primary explosion protection in refineries and chemical plants.
The hydrogen sulphide sensor delivers high resolution for reliably measuring very low workplace exposure limits, while the non-consumptive, lead-free oxygen sensor is characterized by a service life exceeding 5 years. The large matrix liquid-crystal display shows all installed sensor readings simultaneously, automatically resizing based on the number of sensors, with alarm readings highlighted and alternating with A1/A2 alarm level indications.
Engineering Design of the X-am 2500
The X-am 2500 measures 48 x 130 x 44 mm (W x H x D) and weighs 220 to 250 g, carrying IP67 ingress protection for full water and dust resistance across an operating temperature of -20°C to +50°C. Gas can enter from above and from the front, ensuring reliable detection even inside a pocket or if the front gas entry is accidentally covered, while the integrated protective rubber coating and shock-insensitive sensors add durability against impacts and vibration.
The device operates for more than 12 hours with an Ex sensor installed (typically over 250 hours without one) using either alkaline or rechargeable NiMH batteries. An optional external pump with hose up to 45m enables pre-entry measurement of tanks, shafts, and confined spaces, with tool-free switching between diffusion and pump modes. The X-am 2500 is fully compatible with Dräger’s X-dock automated testing and calibration station, completing bump tests in just 8 to 15 seconds with over 40% less gas consumption than competing systems.
Key Features
The X-am 2500 combines proven multi-gas sensing with rugged, field-ready design. Core capabilities include:
- Detects up to 4 gases simultaneously: Ex, O2, CO, H2S, NO2, or SO2.
- Ex approved for Zone 0, ensuring maximum safety in explosive atmospheres.
- IP67-rated water and dust resistance with more than 250 hours of battery life without an Ex sensor.
- Large matrix LCD display with automatic sensor-count resizing.
- Peak value storage for Ex/toxic sensors, minimum value storage for O2.
- X-dock and Bump Test Station compatible for fast, low-gas-consumption testing.
- Not sensitive to electromagnetic radiation from wireless devices.
- Optional external pump with up to 45m hose for confined space entry.
Industrial Applications
The X-am 2500 is well suited to mining, oil and gas, chemical processing, and confined space entry work across Oman requiring reliable personal exposure monitoring of both flammable and toxic gases. Its Zone 0 Ex approval and IP67 rating make it dependable for the harshest industrial environments, while X-dock compatibility significantly reduces calibration and maintenance labor costs.
As a trusted supplier of Dräger safety equipment, Seven Star LLC supports refineries, mining operations, and industrial facilities throughout the Sohar and Salalah economic zones and the broader GCC region with the X-am 2500’s proven personal gas detection platform.

Why Choose Seven Star LLC for Personal Multi-Gas Monitoring Programs
Rolling out personal gas detectors across a workforce is a fleet-management problem as much as a purchasing one – sensor combinations, calibration gas supply, and X-dock bump-test station compatibility all need to be planned together so the devices stay compliant without becoming a daily administrative burden. Seven Star LLC’s engineers help customers specify the right 1-to-4 gas sensor combination for the actual workplace hazards involved, and plan calibration gas cylinder supply and bump-test station procurement alongside the initial device order rather than as an afterthought. For confined-space entry programs across Oman’s oil and gas and mining sector we also help plan spare-unit stock so a unit due for calibration doesn’t take a worker off duty, and we coordinate delivery timed to safety-program rollout schedules across Muscat, Sohar, and the wider GCC.

About brand
Drägerwerk is a German maker of safety and medical technology, founded in Lübeck on 1 January 1889 as Dräger & Gerling by Johann Heinrich Dräger and Carl Adolf Gerling. Its first patent was the Lubeca valve, a pressure reducer for carbon dioxide. Drägerwerk AG is listed on the stock exchange but still controlled by the founding family, led by fifth-generation chairman Stefan Dräger.
Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Dräger fixed gas transmitters, flame detectors, portable gas detectors and Dräger-Tubes for sites in Oman, and checks each part number against the manufacturer's documentation.

Fixed detection is covered by the Polytron line: the Polytron 8100 EC for toxic gases and oxygen with electrochemical sensors, the Polytron 8200 CAT for flammable gases with a catalytic sensor, the Polytron 7000 and the PIR 7000 point infrared detector for hydrocarbons. Dräger flame detectors on this page are the Flame 1500 and Flame 2500 (triple infrared) and the Flame 2700 (multi-infrared). Portable instruments include the Pac 8000 single-gas detector, the X-am 2500 for one to four gases and the X-am 8000 for up to seven. Short-term colorimetric tubes such as Hydrogen Sulfide 100/a (CH29101) are listed with the analyzer accessories.
Where Dräger detectors are used
Polytron transmitters and PIR 7000 heads are found on wellhead and gathering facilities, gas plants, refineries, tank farms, LNG and petrochemical units, and in water treatment chlorine rooms. Portable Dräger gas detectors serve confined space entry, hot work permits and personal H2S monitoring, which is routine on sour fields in the GCC. Detector tubes remain a simple spot check where an electronic sensor is not available for the gas.
Dräger products we list
Ordering Dräger equipment: what we need
Dräger identifies most items by a seven-digit part number, such as 8101211, and that number is the most direct route to the right quotation. For a fixed transmitter, add the target gas, measuring range, output (4-20 mA, HART or relays), housing material, cable entry thread and the required hazardous-area approval. For portables, list the sensor configuration, pump or diffusion mode and the charger or calibration accessories needed. For tubes, give the gas and the range printed on the box.
Facts checked against Dräger's own history pages (draeger.com) and published company histories, October 2026.
