SMC ZH07BS-06-06 Vacuum Ejector Box Type 0.7 mm, 6 mm Tube
Description
A compact vacuum ejector with its silencer built in
ZH07BS-06-06 is a box-type vacuum ejector from the SMC ZH series. The built-in silencer is enclosed in the body, so the exhaust leaves quietly through the cover and no exhaust tube is needed. The nozzle and body are made of resin, which gives a light unit; the catalogue gives 28 g for the 0.5 mm to 0.7 mm box types.
The code reads ZH (series), 07 (0.7 mm nozzle diameter), B (box type with built-in silencer), S (standard type with a maximum vacuum of -88 kPa), 06 (supply port with a 6 mm one-touch fitting) and 06 (vacuum port with a 6 mm one-touch fitting). The large-flow type, with the letter L in place of S, has a maximum vacuum of -48 kPa.

Exhaust piping and back pressure
On box types the exhaust ports must be kept open to the atmosphere in at least one place, since the silencer is the only exhaust path. The catalogue precautions warn that the back pressure in an exhaust pipe on the body-ported types should be 0.005 MPa or lower, and recommend a short, large-diameter exhaust tube there. The box type avoids that issue, which is its main attraction in a panel or on a gripper head.
The silencer material can clog in dusty or oily surroundings, which raises the back pressure and weakens the vacuum, so it should be watched in service.
Choosing the nozzle and type
For a given supply pressure, a bigger nozzle moves more air and gives a higher flow but uses more compressed air. The ZH07B sits low in the range: the 0.5 mm size uses 13 L/min, the 0.7 mm size 23 L/min and the 1.0 mm size 46 L/min, according to the model table. For small suction pads and short tube runs the 0.7 mm nozzle is a typical starting point; confirm with the vacuum equipment selection pages in the catalogue.
Use S where the pad seals well on the part and a deep vacuum is wanted, and L where the part leaks or is porous. Ports can also be ordered with screw-in connections, as listed in the combination table of the catalogue.

ZH07BS-06-06 Technical Specifications (Current ZH-A Catalogue)
The ZH07BS-06-06 belongs to the SMC ZH series of single-stage vacuum ejectors in the box type (built-in silencer) body. SMC has since redesigned the series as the ZH-A generation, and the current catalogue equivalent of this ordering code is the ZH07BSA-06-06. Its ordering code reads as follows: 07 = 0.7 mm nozzle, B = box type with built-in silencer, S = high-vacuum type S, A = current design and 06-06 = Ø6 mm One-touch fittings on the SUP and VAC ports. The figures above in this description refer to the earlier ZH07BS. The table below lists the published data for the current ZH07BSA, which you can use when planning a new installation or a replacement.

All ejector characteristics are representative values. SMC notes that they vary with atmospheric pressure, which depends on weather and altitude.
How the ZH07BS-06-06 Vacuum Ejector Works
A vacuum ejector produces vacuum from compressed air alone. It has no motor, no rotating parts and no electrical supply. Air enters at the SUP port and accelerates through the 0.7 mm nozzle. The high-velocity jet passes into a diffuser, where it entrains the surrounding air. This lowers the pressure in the chamber connected to the VAC port. In the box type, the exhaust passes through the built-in silencer and leaves the body through the exhaust openings, so no separate silencer or exhaust piping is needed. The type S version is optimised for a deep vacuum. The type L version gives a lower vacuum level but a higher suction flow, which suits porous or leaky workpieces.
Because the ejector only consumes air while vacuum is required, the ZH07BS-06-06 is normally switched by a small solenoid valve upstream of the SUP port. Vacuum builds within a fraction of a second after the valve opens, and it decays quickly when the supply is closed and the VAC line is vented.
Selection & Ordering Guide
Decoding the ZH box-type part number
- Nozzle size: 05, 07, 10, 13, 15, 18 or 20, for 0.5 to 2.0 mm. A larger nozzle gives more suction flow but uses more air.
- Body type: B = box type with built-in silencer; D = body-ported type, where the exhaust is ported.
- Vacuum type: S = high vacuum (–89 kPa for box-type ZH05 to ZH13); L = large flow (–48 kPa for ZH05 to ZH13).
- Port sizes: One-touch fittings Ø6 (06), Ø8 (08), Ø10 (10) and Ø12 (12), or female threads Rc, G (F) or NPT (N), depending on the size combinations listed in the catalogue.
- Accessories: a standard bracket can be specified as a suffix option.
Choosing the right size
For small, non-porous workpieces such as sheet metal blanks, glass, plastic mouldings or labels handled by one or two small suction cups, a 0.7 mm ZH07BS-06-06 (or its successor, the ZH07BSA-06-06) is usually adequate. If the workpiece is porous, or the cups leak at the edges, consider the type L variant or a larger nozzle. The supply valve should have a C factor of at least 0.23 dm³/(s·bar) for the 0.7 mm size. A smaller valve starves the nozzle and reduces the vacuum level. Our team can help confirm the correct ordering code for your application.
Installation & Maintenance
- Use tubing at the standard size for the One-touch fittings. If the piping diameter is reduced, the supply flow becomes insufficient and both the suction flow and the vacuum level drop.
- When mounting the box type, leave at least two of the four exhaust directions open. If three or more are covered, exhaust back pressure reduces vacuum performance.
- Supply clean, dry air. SMC refers to the compressed-air quality grades 2:4:3, 2:5:3 and 2:6:3 of ISO 8573-1:2010. Contamination can clog the nozzle and the silencer.
- Install a vacuum filter (ZFA, ZFB or ZFC series) between the suction cup and the VAC port. This prevents dust being drawn into the ejector. If moist air may be drawn in, a drain separator for vacuum (AMJ series) is recommended.
- If the vacuum becomes unstable or noisy close to the standard supply pressure, raise or lower the supply pressure slightly to avoid the unstable region.
- Do not seal the vacuum and exhaust ports at the same time while the supply is on.
Typical Applications in Oman & the GCC
Compact ejectors such as the ZH07BS-06-06 are used on pick-and-place units, labelling and packaging machines, small robot end-effectors, bottle and carton handling in the food and beverage sector, and sheet handling in printing and plastics plants. Plants across Muscat, Sohar, Salalah and the wider GCC run them in high ambient temperatures and dusty air. In these conditions, good air preparation and a vacuum-side filter are the most important factors for keeping the vacuum level stable.

SMC series listed on this page
The AW is a combined filter and pressure regulator in SMC's modular air preparation line. The body size is in the name: AW20 is the smaller unit and AW40 the larger, and the digits after the dash give the port size. A part number such as AW40-04-A therefore describes body size, port and options in one string. The VX2 is a direct-operated two-port solenoid valve for shutting off air, water, oil or steam, depending on the body and seal materials chosen.

Ordering SMC parts: what we need
Give the complete SMC part number from the label, including thread prefix, options and the final suffix letter. For AW units state gauge, drain type and bracket if you need them. For VX2 valves send coil voltage, port size, orifice, body and seal material, and the fluid. Buyers in the GCC often have NPT or G threads on site, so say which thread standard the piping uses.
