What Macrolex dyes are used for
Unlike pigments, these dyes dissolve in the polymer, which is how they give transparent, bright shades. The manufacturer recommends Macrolex Blue RR for amorphous thermoplastics such as polystyrene, polycarbonate, PMMA and PET, and for transparent or opaque coloring of SAN, ABS and ABS/PC blends. It is an anthraquinone dye, described by the manufacturer as having high heat stability and good lightfastness. Suitability for toys or food contact has to be checked grade by grade.

How do I make sure I get the same Macrolex grade as before?
Copy the full grade name from the old packaging, together with the Colour Index name and any material or batch number on the label. A Colour Index name such as Solvent Blue 97 describes the dye chemistry, but the trade grade, here Macrolex Blue RR in powder or granule form, decides what is delivered. Send a photo of the label.
Which plastics are Macrolex dyes suitable for?
According to the manufacturer, Macrolex Blue RR is intended for amorphous thermoplastics, including polystyrene, SAN, ABS, ABS/PC blends, PMMA, polycarbonate and PET. Suitability varies with the individual grade and processing temperature. Tell us your polymer and we will ask for the manufacturer's technical data for the grade you need.
Can Macrolex Solvent Blue 97 be used in food packaging or toys?
That has to be checked for the exact grade and the country of sale. Do not rely on a general statement or on the Colour Index name alone.
