Cortem XLFE-LIB Ex Low Intensity Obstruction Light

Description

Explosion-protected low intensity red obstruction light for towers and stacks

The Cortem XLFE-LIB is a low intensity LED obstruction lighting fixture for installation on towers, stacks and tall structures in hazardous areas. It is red, steady-burning and has a luminous intensity of more than 32 candela, and Cortem states that its light distribution complies with ICAO Annex 14 for low intensity type B warning lights, equivalent to FAA L-810.

Type B low intensity lights are intended for structures with limited height above ground, below about 45 metres. Cortem also says the fixture meets the photometric and intensity requirements for type A low intensity lights. The housing is marked II 2GD Ex db eb IIC T6 Gb and Ex tb IIIC T75 °C Db for Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22, and has an IP66 rating with a borosilicate glass globe.

Infrared (IR) versions

The -IR versions add four infrared LEDs emitting at 800 to 900 nm with an intensity above 4 mW/sr and a vertical beam above 10 degrees, designed to be visible through night vision goggles and to follow FAA guidance on NVG-compatible obstruction lighting. The visible red output is unchanged.

Code R230F-IR and R024F-IR are the infrared versions of the AC and DC models. All four codes share the same 6 W power consumption and housing size.

Choosing and installing the fixture

Select the 230 V AC type where mains is available at the structure and the 24 V DC type where the lights are fed from a low-voltage or battery-backed system. Make sure the lighting class required by the aviation authority is confirmed by the project, since obstruction lighting requirements depend on the structure height and local rules.

Mount it using the dimensional drawing and bracket in the catalogue, use NAV25IB or NEV25IB glands for armoured or non-armoured cable, keep the connection compartment sealed after wiring, and follow the Cortem instructions. For larger structures or intermediate heights, Cortem also offers medium intensity types such as the XLFE-MIA.

About brand

Cortem is an Italian manufacturer of electrical equipment for environments with a risk of explosion and fire. Cortem S.p.A., the main company of Cortem Group, was founded in 1968 in Villesse, Italy, and the group today supplies industrial plants, offshore platforms, refineries and shipyards with certified products for hazardous areas.

Explosion-protected product range

The catalogue covers junction boxes in aluminium, stainless steel and GRP, control and command stations, metal cable glands and connectors, plugs and sockets, LED floodlights, linear and high-bay luminaires, hand lamps, signalling and obstruction lights, and weatherproof series equipment. Products are certified to ATEX and IECEx, with UKEX and other schemes available according to the model.

Applications and documentation

Typical sectors named by the company include oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, mining, shipbuilding and traditional and green energy. Each product family has a datasheet with the marking, zones, temperature classes and certificate numbers, so the equipment can be matched to a hazardous area classification before ordering.

Sourcing through Seven Star LLC

Seven Star LLC supplies Cortem products to customers in Oman and the GCC and quotes against the model code, zone and certificate requirement.
