SMC specifies replacing the filter element every two years or when the pressure drop reaches 0.1 MPa, whichever comes first. Condensate should be drained regularly, and polycarbonate bowls must not be cleaned with solvents.
SMC AW20-A Ordering Code and Options
In the SMC catalog the code reads AW + body size + thread type + port size + options + semi-standard symbols + -A. For the example AW20-F02-A, 20 is the body size, F is G thread (blank is Rc, N is NPT), 02 is the 1/4 port (01 is 1/8), and no options are selected.
Option letters for size 20 are B (bracket), H (set nut for panel mounting), C (normally closed float-type auto drain), and G or M for a round pressure gauge with limit indicator or with colour zone. Semi-standard symbols are 1 (0.02 to 0.2 MPa setting), 2 (metal bowl), 6 (nylon bowl), C (bowl guard), J (drain guide 1/8 instead of drain cock), N (non-relieving), R (flow right to left) and Z (psi labelling, available with NPT threads). The normally open auto drain and the metal bowl with level gauge are not offered in size 20.
Options B, G, H and M are shipped loose, not assembled. Made-to-order variants are -X406 (0.4 MPa maximum setting), -X64 (long bowl) and -X2068 (0.85 MPa maximum setting).
SMC AW20-A Installation Notes
The regulator knob must be pulled to unlock before adjustment and pushed to lock afterwards; an orange mark is visible while it is unlocked. SMC warns against using tools on the knob and advises setting pressure while watching the inlet and outlet gauges. Residual pressure cannot be exhausted back to the inlet when the set pressure is 0.15 MPa or lower; a regulator with backflow function is needed for that. With the normally closed auto drain, condensate remains in the bowl when pressure is removed, so draining at the end of the day is recommended. Polycarbonate bowls must not be exposed to organic solvents, cutting oil, synthetic oil, alkalis or thread-lock fluid; SMC recommends a metal bowl where this is in doubt.
