SMC ZH10DS-06-06-08 Vacuum Ejector Body Ported 1.0 mm
Description
A body-ported ejector for centralised exhaust
ZH10DS-06-06-08 is a body-ported vacuum ejector from the SMC ZH series, without a built-in silencer. All three ports (supply, vacuum and exhaust) are on the body and use one-touch fittings, so the exhaust can be piped away to a common silencer or to a place where the noise and the exhaust air do not disturb the process. The unit weighs only 16 g, and the body has mounting holes so that it can be fixed in place.
The code is ZH (series), 10 (1.0 mm nozzle), D (body ported type), S (standard type, -88 kPa), 06 (supply port, 6 mm one-touch), 06 (vacuum port, 6 mm one-touch) and 08 (exhaust port, 8 mm one-touch). This is the all-one-touch combination offered for the ZH10D in the port-size table.

Why use the body-ported type
With a silencer-free ejector, the exhaust is piped out through the exhaust port. This is useful where several ejectors share one exhaust line (centralised exhaust), where a clean room or a food area cannot take the exhaust air, or where the sound-absorbing material of a built-in silencer would clog. The cost is that the exhaust tube becomes part of the circuit.
The catalogue states that the back pressure of the exhaust pipe on the body-ported models should be 0.005 MPa or less, and gives as a reference that a tube of the applicable diameter should be no longer than 0.5 m. Do not reduce the exhaust tube with a smaller reducer, because that raises the back pressure and lowers the performance.
Application notes
The 1.0 mm nozzle gives twice the suction flow of the 0.7 mm nozzle for roughly twice the air consumption (46 L/min against 23 L/min, from the model table), which suits medium suction pads or longer tubes where the evacuation time matters. Always compare the time to reach the vacuum needed against the cycle time, since a bigger nozzle lifts faster.
Mount the ejector near the pad, use clean dry air and keep the supply near the standard 0.45 MPa. A vacuum switch such as the ZSE30A can confirm that the pad has gripped the part.

ZH10DS-06-06-08 Technical Specifications (Current ZH-A Catalogue)
The ZH10DS-06-06-08 is a body-ported vacuum ejector from the SMC ZH series. SMC now supplies this family as the redesigned ZH-A generation. The current catalogue equivalent is the ZH10DSA-06-06-08, which keeps the same port arrangement: an Ø6 mm One-touch fitting on SUP, an Ø6 mm One-touch fitting on VAC, and an Ø8 mm One-touch fitting on EXH. The figures in the description above refer to the earlier ZH10DS. The table below gives the published data for the current ZH10DSA, which you can use for new designs and replacements.
| Parameter | ZH10DSA (current equivalent) |
|---|---|
| Body type | Body ported (exhaust piped or fitted with an optional silencer) |
| Nozzle nominal size | 1.0 mm |
| Vacuum pressure reached, type S | –90 kPa (at 0.45 MPa supply) |
| Vacuum pressure reached, type L (for comparison) | –48 kPa |
| Maximum suction flow rate | 26 L/min (ANR) type S; 52 L/min (ANR) type L |
| Air consumption | 52 L/min (ANR) |
| Weight (One-touch fitting type, without bracket) | 6.1 g |
| Fluid | Air |
| Operating pressure range (supply port) | 0.1 to 0.6 MPa |
| Operating temperature range | –5 to 50°C (no freezing) |
| Applicable tubing | FEP, PFA, nylon, soft nylon, polyurethane |
| Minimum supply valve C factor | 0.47 dm³/(s·bar) |
| Exhaust back pressure | 5 kPa or less when piping or a silencer is connected |
All ejector characteristics are representative values. SMC notes that they vary with atmospheric pressure (weather, altitude).
How the ZH10DS-06-06-08 Works
Compressed air from the SUP port is accelerated through the 1.0 mm nozzle into a diffuser. The high-speed jet entrains air from the chamber connected to the VAC port, which creates vacuum at the suction cup. In the body-ported design, the mixed exhaust air leaves through a dedicated EXH port. It can be piped away from the machine, for example to keep exhaust air and noise out of a clean area or away from an operator, or it can be fitted with a silencer. Because no moving parts are involved, the ejector responds immediately when the supply valve opens and needs very little maintenance.
Piping the exhaust has one trade-off: any restriction on the EXH side raises back pressure. SMC specifies a back pressure of 5 kPa or less. If a silencer is connected, the specified vacuum performance falls by 10% or less, and higher back pressure further reduces suction flow and lengthens the transfer cycle time.
Selection & Ordering Guide
Decoding the ZH10DS-06-06-08 ordering code
- ZH: vacuum ejector, body ported / box type series
- 10: nozzle nominal size 1.0 mm (the range runs from 0.5 to 2.0 mm)
- D: body ported type (B would be the box type with built-in silencer)
- S: high-vacuum type S. Type L gives a lower vacuum with a higher suction flow.
- 06-06-08: SUP Ø6 / VAC Ø6 / EXH Ø8 One-touch fittings. Threaded Rc, G (F) and NPT (N) port options are also catalogued.
- Suffix (current ZH-A): optional standard bracket and/or silencer, shipped with the product but not assembled. The standard bracket for ZH05 to ZH10DA is ZH2-BK1A-1-A.
Sizing notes
The 1.0 mm nozzle sits in the middle of the range. It is a common choice when several medium suction cups are fed from one ejector, or when a 0.7 mm unit is too slow to evacuate the cup volume. The supply valve feeding the ZH10DS-06-06-08 should have a C factor of at least 0.47 dm³/(s·bar). Our team can help confirm the correct ordering code, including the current ZH10DSA-06-06-08 equivalent and any bracket or silencer options.
Installation & Maintenance
- Use tubing at the standard size for each One-touch fitting. Reducing the piping diameter reduces supply flow, suction flow and vacuum level.
- Keep the exhaust line short and generously sized so that back pressure stays at 5 kPa or below.
- Supply clean, dry air in line with the ISO 8573-1:2010 quality grades 2:4:3, 2:5:3 or 2:6:3 that SMC references. Contaminants can clog the nozzle and the exhaust passage.
- Fit a vacuum filter (ZFA, ZFB or ZFC series) on the vacuum side so that dust picked up at the cup does not enter the ejector. Use a vacuum drain separator (AMJ series) if moist air is drawn in.
- Never seal the VAC and EXH ports at the same time while supply pressure is applied.
- If the vacuum becomes unstable with an intermittent noise close to the standard supply pressure, adjust the supply pressure slightly up or down.
Typical Applications in Oman & the GCC
Body-ported ejectors such as the ZH10DS-06-06-08 are used where exhaust air must be ducted away: food and pharmaceutical packaging lines, electronics assembly, cleanroom-adjacent handling, and machines where silencer noise near the operator is not acceptable. They are also used on palletising grippers, carton erectors, panel handling in fabrication shops and tray handling in bottling plants in Oman and across the GCC.

SMC series listed on this page
The AW is a combined filter and pressure regulator in SMC's modular air preparation line. The body size is in the name: AW20 is the smaller unit and AW40 the larger, and the digits after the dash give the port size. A part number such as AW40-04-A therefore describes body size, port and options in one string. The VX2 is a direct-operated two-port solenoid valve for shutting off air, water, oil or steam, depending on the body and seal materials chosen.

Ordering SMC parts: what we need
Give the complete SMC part number from the label, including thread prefix, options and the final suffix letter. For AW units state gauge, drain type and bracket if you need them. For VX2 valves send coil voltage, port size, orifice, body and seal material, and the fluid. Buyers in the GCC often have NPT or G threads on site, so say which thread standard the piping uses.
