Pfannenberg PF 42500 230V IP54 Filterfan, 125-138 m3/h

Description

PF 42500 230V IP54 filterfan: 125 to 138 m³/h with spring terminals

The PF 42500 230V IP54 is a size-4 Pfannenberg filterfan with a 230 V AC ball-bearing fan, a free airflow of 125 m³/h at 50 Hz and 138 m³/h at 60 Hz, and a 223 x 223 mm cut-out. It serves mid-sized control cabinets and motor control panels. Seven Star LLC supplies the PF 42500 230V IP54 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

The name consists of PF for the family, 42500 for the size-4 housing, 230V for the supply and IP54 for the protection class. The article number 11642101055 identifies this variant. The sibling PF 43000 uses the same cut-out of 223 mm but a bigger fan with more airflow, so the two are interchangeable in an existing panel.

Efficiency of the PF 42500 230V IP54

The PF 42500 delivers 125 m³/h on 18 W, which is about 7 m³/h per watt. The PF 43000 of the same cut-out delivers 223 m³/h on 45 W, about 5 m³/h per watt, so the 42500 is the economical choice where the heat load allows. A cabinet of 300 W with a 10 K permitted rise needs about 93 m³/h, which this fan meets with the filter in place.

Lower power consumption also means less heat from the fan itself and lower stress on the supply. In an enclosure with many fans, as in a switchgear room with dozens of panels, the difference accumulates.

Spring terminals and ball bearing on the PF 42500 230V IP54

Compared with the screw terminal strip of size 2, the spring terminal makes wiring faster and holds well under vibration. The ball bearing is used in the larger sizes because it carries the heavier rotor and tolerates higher temperatures. These details make the unit suited for panels in plant rooms that run all year round.

Fit in the system and related parts

The exhaust counterpart of the size is the PFA 40000, and the same frame is available with 24 V DC, 115 V AC and 48 V options and in an EMC version. The PF 42500 24V IP54 gives the same frame for DC panels. Accessories include thermostats, hygrostats, rainhoods and filter mats.

PF 42500 230V IP54 selection and ordering checklist

  • Heat load and temperature rise allowed
  • Highest ambient at site
  • 230 V AC supply at 50 or 60 Hz
  • Cut-out of 223 mm and depth of 97 mm
  • Exhaust filter size 4
  • Thermostat or hygrostat
  • Whether IP55 or EMC versions are needed instead

Installing and maintaining the PF 42500 230V IP54

Position the filterfan in the lower half of a door or side wall and the exhaust in the upper half on the other side. Wire the spring terminal using conductors in the permitted range and protect the circuit with the 6 A gG fuse stated.

At 1.18 kg the unit is light but door-mounted fans add leverage, so check the door hinges on large panels. Replace filter mats on a schedule that suits the site, and listen for bearing noise during rounds.

Typical PF 42500 230V IP54 applications in Oman and the GCC

Oil and gas, power, desalination and petrochemical sites in Oman and the GCC share the same enemies of control cabinets: ambient air that is hot for most of the year, fine sand and, on the coast, humid salty air. This size suits motor control centres, drive panels, large PLC cabinets and electrical kiosks that are located in air-conditioned rooms or shaded shelters where outside air is cooler than the inside limit.

One practical point on airflow paths: the air that enters through the filterfan should be guided past the hottest components before leaving, not short-circuit directly to the exhaust. In a tall panel, mount the filterfan low on the door and put the exhaust at the top on the side, then check with a small piece of tissue or a smoke pencil that air moves across the heat sources. Where large drives or transformers sit at the top, a small internal circulation fan can mix the air and prevent hot spots that the cabinet thermostat does not sense.

Site conditions in Oman for the PF 42500 230V IP54

Panel cooling in Oman is sized for the worst case, not the average day. Summer shade temperatures in Muscat, Sohar and the interior regularly pass 45 °C, and a cabinet standing in direct sun gains further heat through its walls. When you size the PF 42500 230V IP54, add the internal losses of drives, power supplies and PLCs to the solar and wall gain, and compare the total with the useful cooling capacity at your real ambient and target cabinet temperature, rather than with a nominal figure stated at milder test conditions.

Coastal sites near Duqm, Salalah or Sur also bring humidity and salt-laden dust. Keep door seals intact, route the condensate drain away from live parts, and plan routine filter and coil cleaning so that the PF 42500 230V IP54 keeps its rated performance through the long summer season.

About brand

Pfannenberg is the German maker of thermal management and signalling products for electrical enclosures and industry: filter fans, cooling units, air-to-water heat exchangers, chillers, heaters, sirens and beacons. Otto Pfannenberg, an electrical engineer, founded the company in Hamburg in 1954, and in 1958 he invented the filter fan to stop components in control cabinets from overheating. Pfannenberg is still family-owned and headquartered in Hamburg.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Pfannenberg signalling devices and enclosure climate products for panel builders and plant engineers in Oman and the GCC.
