Pfannenberg PF 11000 230V IP54 Filterfan, 19-24 m3/h

Description

PF 11000 230V IP54 filterfan: decoded article 11611101055

The PF 11000 230V IP54 is a small installation size 1 filterfan with a 230 V AC supply from Pfannenberg, intended to move cabinet-external air through a filter mat and into an electrical enclosure. It is built into a door or side panel cut-out and removes heat by exchanging the warm enclosure air for cooler ambient air, so it only works when the surrounding air is cooler than the maximum acceptable temperature inside the cabinet.

The model name decodes as follows: PF is the filterfan family, 11000 identifies installation size 1 (the cut-out and airflow class), 230 V AC is the supply voltage and IP54 is the protection class of the filterfan face. The full order number for this exact variant is 11611101055. Seven Star LLC supplies this size-1 unit in Oman and the GCC.

How the PF 11000 230V filterfan works

The smallest member of the series, it is the first choice for a compact control box, an instrument housing or a terminal enclosure where only a few tens of watts of heat must be moved. Its rated airflow of 19 to 24 m³/h is intentionally modest, so it should be matched to genuinely small heat loads.

In the PF 11000 230V IP54, air enters through the louvred front cover, passes through the filter mat and is pushed into the enclosure by a single axial fan. Warm air leaves the cabinet through a second opening, usually fitted with a matching exhaust filter, so that dust cannot enter through the outlet either. The louvres are shaped to give a high airflow for the size of the housing and to keep splash water and falling debris away from the filter mat.

Because the PF 11000 230V IP54 only moves air, the achievable cooling depends on the temperature difference between the inside and the outside of the enclosure and on the pressure drop of the filters and any rainhood. A thermostat is normally used to switch the fan on at a set cabinet temperature, which saves power and extends filter life.

Fit in the system and related Pfannenberg parts

The cut-out is 92 mm square and the product is only 62 mm deep behind the panel, which makes the unit easy to retrofit in shallow enclosures and in the cut-outs of earlier-generation size-1 filterfans.

The same family covers installation sizes 1 to 6, with sibling models such as PF 11000, PF 22000, PF 32000, PF 42500, PF 43000, PF 65000 and the slim PF 67000 SL. The exhaust counterpart carries the PFA prefix and shares the cut-out, so a filterfan and an exhaust filter of the same size can be combined for forced circulation.

Selection and ordering checklist for the PF 11000 230V IP54

Before ordering the PF 11000 230V IP54, confirm that the following points are settled so the correct variant is quoted:

  • Cabinet heat load in watts and the permitted internal temperature
  • Maximum outdoor or room air temperature; the fan can only cool when ambient is lower than the enclosure limit
  • Supply voltage: 230 V AC for this variant, other voltages carry other article numbers
  • Cut-out of 92 mm x 92 mm and available installation depth of at least 62 mm
  • Need for an exhaust filter, spare filter mats, thermostat or rainhood

Each 230 V AC unit of this size draws only 12 W, so it is sensible to ask for the exact heat load rather than overspecify. Where the measured heat is above what 24 m³/h can remove, the next size, the PF 22000, shares the same design language and gives more reserve.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the PF 11000 230V IP54

Installing the PF 11000 230V IP54 uses a cut-out in the cabinet wall and the tool-free four-corner fastening of the Pfannenberg filterfan. A poured foam seal on the frame is pressed against the panel, which keeps the stated protection class intact without a separate gasket. Mount the fan so that the airflow is from outside to inside and place the exhaust outlet as far from the inlet as practical, ideally at the opposite side and higher up, so warm air rises out of the enclosure.

Connect the PF 11000 230V IP54 supply with the fuse stated in the data table and protect the circuit as described in the manual. For commissioning, run the fan for several minutes and confirm direction of air movement at the louvres, then check the enclosure temperature under real load.

  • Inspect the filter mat on every service visit and replace it when it is visibly loaded; spare mats are sold in packs of five
  • Check that the exhaust outlet is not blocked by cables or panel fittings
  • Listen for bearing noise; a sleeve bearing unit is designed for continuous duty and long life at +40 °C

When the cabinet is installed on an offshore platform, in a pump house or in a metering skid, a rainhood in stainless steel can be fitted over the louvres to keep falling water away from the face of the filterfan.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

Typical homes for a size-1 unit are small field junction boxes, local control stations near pumps, analyser interface boxes and meter panels, all of which carry only a few drives or power supplies.

Across the region, filterfans are used on control panels in oil and gas facilities, power stations and substations, desalination plants and petrochemical sites, where cabinets sit in electrical rooms or outdoor kiosks. Ambient temperatures above +40 °C for much of the year, fine sand and high humidity near the coast mean that the filter mat class, the protection class and the thermal margin should be checked rather than assumed. Where outdoor ambient air can approach the allowed enclosure temperature, a cooling unit or heat exchanger is the better choice than a filterfan.

About brand

Pfannenberg is the German maker of thermal management and signalling products for electrical enclosures and industry: filter fans, cooling units, air-to-water heat exchangers, chillers, heaters, sirens and beacons. Otto Pfannenberg, an electrical engineer, founded the company in Hamburg in 1954, and in 1958 he invented the filter fan to stop components in control cabinets from overheating. Pfannenberg is still family-owned and headquartered in Hamburg.

FAQ

Questions about the Pfannenberg PF 11000 230V IP54 Filterfan, 19-24 m3/h

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.

01What airflow does the PF 11000 230V IP54 deliver?
It moves 19 m³/h at 50 Hz and 24 m³/h at 60 Hz with no restriction. With a PFA 10000 exhaust filter fitted on the outlet the figures fall to 12 and 14 m³/h, so size the unit on the lower numbers.
02What is the cut-out size?
The panel cut-out is 92 mm x 92 mm. The housing is 109 mm x 109 mm on the face and 66 mm deep, with an installation depth of 62 mm behind the panel.
03Is the PF 11000 230V IP54 suitable for outdoor use?
It is rated IP54 and NEMA Type 12 on the face, which suits dusty indoor rooms and sheltered kiosks. Directly exposed outdoor cabinets need a rainhood or a higher protection class such as an IP55 version of a larger size.
04How is it connected and fused?
A 2-core cable of 310 mm length is fitted, and the data table calls for a gG 6 A pre-fuse. Final wiring and fuse selection must follow the manual.
05Which supply voltages exist for this size?
Besides 230 V AC the series lists 115 V AC, 12 V DC, 24 V DC and 48 V DC variants, each with its own article number. Confirm the voltage before ordering.
