Pfannenberg PWS 7702 400V Air/Water Heat Exchanger, 7000 W

Description

PWS 7702 400V air/water heat exchanger: decoded part number

The PWS 7702 400V is the largest air/water heat exchanger in the PWS 7000 range, rated at 7000 W with a cooling-water flow of 500 l/h. It is a three-phase unit for the biggest enclosures and switchgear lineups where several kilowatts must be removed with a water circuit.

Decoded: PWS = side-mounted air/water heat exchanger, 7702 = 7000 W model, 400V = three-phase 400 V supply. The order number is 12057702055 and the 230 V version is 12057710055.

How the PWS 7702 400V works

Air from the enclosure is moved by a high-flow fan, with 3630 m³/h in the 400 V version, over a copper-and-aluminium coil. Cold water at up to +35 °C removes the heat, and a solenoid valve controlled by an integrated thermostat limits water use.

The unit includes a temperature monitor with an alarm contact and a condensate drain. The sheet describes it as maintenance-free with a mounting-friendly seal that avoids rework of the cut-out.

The 7000 W rating is at 10 °C inlet water, 35 °C air and 500 l/h; if your water is warmer or the flow lower, the real capacity will be less and should be checked.

Fit in the system and related Pfannenberg parts

This is the top size of the PWS 7000 range, above the PWS 7502 (5200 W) and the PWS 7332 (3150 W).

  • 230 V version: article 12057710055
  • PWS 7502 (5200 W): article 12055010055

Selection and ordering checklist for the PWS 7702 400V

Before ordering the PWS 7702 400V, settle the following points so that the right variant is quoted:

  • Heat load against 7000 W at the actual water temperature and flow
  • Water supply of 500 l/h at +35 °C or lower, max 10 bar
  • Three-phase 400 V and T 10 A protection
  • Wall space 1800 mm x 460 mm x 310 mm and weight 58 kg
  • IP55 or IP65 and housing finish

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the PWS 7702 400V

At 58 kg the unit needs a hoist and a rigid mounting surface. Seal the cut-out carefully, connect hoses with shut-off valves and vent the water side. The three-phase supply must be connected with the correct phase rotation for the fan.

Commission by running at load and recording the water inlet and outlet temperature and the cabinet temperature, which is useful for later checks.

  • Examine water connections
  • Clean coil and drain
  • Check the water quality and strainer
  • Verify the alarm contact

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

A 7 kW exchanger is used for large drive lineups, rectifier and UPS rooms, and process-control cabinets at refineries, power plants and desalination plants. The high airflow suits big enclosures in which hot spots would otherwise form.

Where a plant has chilled water, a unit like this avoids the electrical load and noise of a refrigeration unit, but it does depend on the water system staying available. Plan for redundancy: if the plant water is shut for maintenance, the cabinet can overheat within minutes at this heat load, so connect the alarm contact to the control system and agree a response with the plant operator. Where the cabinet is critical, a second cooling method or a bypass is worth discussing before the order is placed.

Site conditions in Oman for the PWS 7702 400V

Panel cooling in Oman is sized for the worst case, not the average day. Summer shade temperatures in Muscat, Sohar and the interior regularly pass 45 °C, and a cabinet standing in direct sun gains further heat through its walls. When you size the PWS 7702 400V, add the internal losses of drives, power supplies and PLCs to the solar and wall gain, and compare the total with the useful cooling capacity at your real ambient and target cabinet temperature, rather than with a nominal figure stated at milder test conditions.

Coastal sites near Duqm, Salalah or Sur also bring humidity and salt-laden dust. Keep door seals intact, route the condensate drain away from live parts, and plan routine filter and coil cleaning so that the PWS 7702 400V keeps its rated performance through the long summer season.

About brand

Pfannenberg is the German maker of thermal management and signalling products for electrical enclosures and industry: filter fans, cooling units, air-to-water heat exchangers, chillers, heaters, sirens and beacons. Otto Pfannenberg, an electrical engineer, founded the company in Hamburg in 1954, and in 1958 he invented the filter fan to stop components in control cabinets from overheating. Pfannenberg is still family-owned and headquartered in Hamburg.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Pfannenberg signalling devices and enclosure climate products for panel builders and plant engineers in Oman and the GCC.
