Pfannenberg PWS 7502 230V Air/Water Heat Exchanger, 5200 W

Description

PWS 7502 230V air/water heat exchanger: decoded part number

The PWS 7502 230V is a large air/water heat exchanger rated at 5200 W for side mounting on the outside of a big enclosure. It is a heavy-duty cabinet cooler for installations that have a plentiful supply of chilled or process water and need to dissipate several kilowatts without opening the enclosure.

Decoded: PWS = side-mounted air/water heat exchanger, 7502 = 5200 W model, 230V = single-phase 230 V. The order number is 12055010055 (115 V 60 Hz twin: 12055017055). The sheet describes this model on its own.

How the PWS 7502 230V works

The principle is the same as for the smaller PWS 7000 models: cabinet air is cooled by a finned copper coil carrying cold water, and the heat leaves in the water. The capacity of 5200 W applies at 10 °C inlet water, a water flow of 400 l/h and 35 °C cabinet air (W10/A35).

The control is integrated: a thermostat operates a solenoid valve, and a temperature monitor offers an alarm contact. The sheet describes the unit as maintenance-free.

The housing is galvanised steel, powder coated in RAL 7035, with stainless steel offered on request. IP65 protection is available on request, which matters where the unit is hosed down or exposed to heavy dust.

Fit in the system and related Pfannenberg parts

It is the second largest of the PWS 7000 models; the 7702 goes up to 7000 W.

  • 115 V 60 Hz twin: article 12055017055
  • PWS 7332 (3150 W): article 12053010055
  • PWS 7702 (7000 W) in 400 V or 230 V
  • Stainless-steel housing and IP65 on request

Selection and ordering checklist for the PWS 7502 230V

Before ordering the PWS 7502 230V, settle the following points so that the right variant is quoted:

  • Heat load against the 5200 W rating, adjusted for the real water temperature
  • Water: 400 l/h at +35 °C or colder, maximum 10 bar
  • 230 V 1~ supply and T 6 A protection
  • Wall space and weight: 1400 mm x 460 mm x 239 mm, 39 kg
  • Housing finish and IP rating

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the PWS 7502 230V

A unit of 39 kg needs two persons or lifting gear and a rigid wall. Mount it on the outside of the enclosure, seal the cut-out, connect the hose nozzles and vent the water side.

Run the unit and verify that the alarm contact and the thermostat operate. In larger installations, record the water flow and inlet temperature at commissioning for later comparison.

  • Examine water hoses and connectors regularly
  • Clean coil and condensate drain
  • Check water quality
  • Keep the air inlet and outlet clear

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

At 5 kW this unit serves large drive cabinets, MCC lineups and UPS or battery cabinets in plants with a central cooling-water supply. For a GCC plant with a chilled-water loop it can keep a closed cabinet at +35 °C while the plant room is much hotter.

Where the water quality is poor, plan a strainer ahead of the solenoid valve and consider a closed-loop water circuit with inhibitor.

A large unit like this one depends on the plant water system. Before ordering, ask the plant engineers for the supply temperature in summer, the available pressure difference between supply and return, and the water treatment in use, because these decide whether 400 l/h can really be delivered at +35 °C or below. The unit also adds weight of 39 kg to the wall, so check the stiffness of the enclosure wall or door and use reinforcement if the unit is on a door.

Site conditions in Oman for the PWS 7502 230V

Panel cooling in Oman is sized for the worst case, not the average day. Summer shade temperatures in Muscat, Sohar and the interior regularly pass 45 °C, and a cabinet standing in direct sun gains further heat through its walls. When you size the PWS 7502 230V, add the internal losses of drives, power supplies and PLCs to the solar and wall gain, and compare the total with the useful cooling capacity at your real ambient and target cabinet temperature, rather than with a nominal figure stated at milder test conditions.

Coastal sites near Duqm, Salalah or Sur also bring humidity and salt-laden dust. Keep door seals intact, route the condensate drain away from live parts, and plan routine filter and coil cleaning so that the PWS 7502 230V keeps its rated performance through the long summer season.

About brand

Pfannenberg is the German maker of thermal management and signalling products for electrical enclosures and industry: filter fans, cooling units, air-to-water heat exchangers, chillers, heaters, sirens and beacons. Otto Pfannenberg, an electrical engineer, founded the company in Hamburg in 1954, and in 1958 he invented the filter fan to stop components in control cabinets from overheating. Pfannenberg is still family-owned and headquartered in Hamburg.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Pfannenberg signalling devices and enclosure climate products for panel builders and plant engineers in Oman and the GCC.
