Brand:

Pfannenberg DTS 3281 230V NEMA 4X Cooling Unit, 1900 W

Description

DTS 3281 230V cooling unit: decoded part number

The DTS 3281 230V is the largest NEMA 4/4X unit in the DTS 3000 family, with a stainless-steel 304 housing and a cooling capacity of 1900 to 2000 W. It is intended for outdoor and washdown enclosures where a painted steel unit would not survive and where a considerable heat load must be handled.

Decoded: DTS = side mount, 3281 = NEMA 4/4X unit of the 1900 to 2000 W class (3261 is the NEMA 3R/4 variant), 230V = single-phase 230 V supply. The order number is 13385741158 with Standard Controller.

How the DTS 3281 230V works

The 3281 is a sealed refrigerant circuit with a compressor, condenser, evaporator and expansion device. The internal air is cooled and dried, and an integrated condensate evaporation system takes care of the water. The condenser has a 3 mm fin spacing and coated heat exchangers, so the unit is fit for ambient air with dust and chemical load.

The sheet states that the unit keeps its protection class against the enclosure at a UL-tested NEMA 3R/4 or 4/4X level depending on the model. The 100 % duty cycle and the maintenance-free claim make it suitable for unattended sites.

A relatively high capacity at A35/A50 (1758 W of 1900 W) means that the unit loses little output as ambient temperatures rise, which is helpful in hot climates because the usable capacity stays close to the nominal value.

Fit in the system and related Pfannenberg parts

It is the top model of the compact DTS 3000 family, above the DTS 3181 (1140 to 1235 W). Larger heat loads call for the DTI/DTS 6X series.

  • 115 V 60 Hz SC: article 13385744158; LAP 13385744178
  • 460 V versions: SC 13385736158; LAP 13385736178

Selection and ordering checklist for the DTS 3281 230V

Before ordering the DTS 3281 230V, settle the following points so that the right variant is quoted:

  • Heat load and worst-case ambient; 1758 W at A35/A50 is the key figure for hot sites
  • Supply: 230 V, 400 / 460 V or 115 V versions exist
  • SC or LAP package
  • NEMA 4/4X stainless or 3R/4
  • Space for 1209 mm x 394 mm and 269 mm projection

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the DTS 3281 230V

The unit is heavy; use proper lifting and make sure the enclosure wall or door is rated for the weight. Mount on the outside of the enclosure and seal the cut-out carefully.

At start-up check the setpoint and observe the refrigerant circuit for stable operation under load. Verify that the plug connection and pre-fuse match the data on the sheet.

  • Clean the condenser regularly in dusty environments
  • Check seals and stainless fasteners
  • Inspect condensate evaporation
  • Use qualified personnel for refrigerant work

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

At 1.9 to 2 kW with stainless 304 construction, the DTS 3281 is a good match for outdoor drive cabinets, transformer-rectifier cabinets, and communication and control shelters on coastal sites in the Gulf, where salt and humidity attack painted housings.

Because its output holds up at +50 °C ambient, it can be sized more closely to the actual heat load than units whose capacity drops quickly at high ambient. When you specify it, give us the heat load in watts, the highest expected ambient and the allowed internal temperature, so that we can check the nominal figures against your duty and quote the right variant. Remember that the electrical supply must carry the starting current of 21.8 A in addition to the 6.2 A running current, so the upstream breaker and the cable should be checked against the T 10 A fuse of the sheet.

Site conditions in Oman for the DTS 3281 230V

Panel cooling in Oman is sized for the worst case, not the average day. Summer shade temperatures in Muscat, Sohar and the interior regularly pass 45 °C, and a cabinet standing in direct sun gains further heat through its walls. When you size the DTS 3281 230V, add the internal losses of drives, power supplies and PLCs to the solar and wall gain, and compare the total with the useful cooling capacity at your real ambient and target cabinet temperature, rather than with a nominal figure stated at milder test conditions.

Coastal sites near Duqm, Salalah or Sur also bring humidity and salt-laden dust. Keep door seals intact, route the condensate drain away from live parts, and plan routine filter and coil cleaning so that the DTS 3281 230V keeps its rated performance through the long summer season.

About brand

Pfannenberg is the German maker of thermal management and signalling products for electrical enclosures and industry: filter fans, cooling units, air-to-water heat exchangers, chillers, heaters, sirens and beacons. Otto Pfannenberg, an electrical engineer, founded the company in Hamburg in 1954, and in 1958 he invented the filter fan to stop components in control cabinets from overheating. Pfannenberg is still family-owned and headquartered in Hamburg.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Pfannenberg signalling devices and enclosure climate products for panel builders and plant engineers in Oman and the GCC.
