Delta ME300 Basic Compact AC Motor Drive

Description

Overview

The Delta ME300 is the basic compact drive in the Delta Electronics micro drive range. It is designed for simple speed control duties where size, cost and quick installation count most: single pumps and pump sets, conveyors, fans, woodworking, packaging and textile machines. Delta states that the series achieves up to 60 percent volume reduction compared with corresponding ratings of the older VFD-EL series, while adding user-defined parameter groups, single and multi-pump functions, a built-in brake chopper and an optional Class C2 EMC filter. The drive also replaces the discontinued Delta VFD-S series, and it shares the screwless terminal style used across the newer Delta compact drives.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Delta ME300 to pump skid builders, HVAC and plumbing contractors, OEM machine shops and maintenance teams across Oman and the GCC. Our Muscat office helps match the drive to motor current, supply voltage and installation conditions, and it can advise when a Delta ME300 is sufficient and when a larger vector drive would be the better choice.

Working Principle

A variable frequency drive changes motor speed by changing the frequency applied to the motor. Inside the Delta ME300, the supply is rectified to a DC bus and an inverter produces a pulse-width modulated output whose fundamental frequency can be set anywhere from 0 to 599 Hz. In V/f mode the drive keeps the voltage-to-frequency ratio in step so the motor magnetisation stays correct, while sensorless vector control estimates the motor flux and adjusts current to hold torque at low speed. For induction motors in heavy duty, the general specifications list 150 percent starting torque at 3 Hz and a speed control range of 1:50.

For pumping, the drive closes a PID loop around a pressure or flow signal and adjusts speed to hold the setpoint. When demand falls and pressure is stable, sleep mode stops the pump to avoid frequent start-stop cycles, and leakage detection prevents nuisance wake-ups. If the water supply fails, dry-run detection decelerates the pump to a stop to protect the seal and impeller. These functions save energy compared with throttling and reduce wear on the hydraulic system.

Engineering Design of the Delta ME300

The Delta ME300 is built in frames A to D, with widths from 68 mm to 109 mm in the standard model tables. The front panel carries a 4-digit LED display, a frequency setting potentiometer and direction keys, so many installations can be run without an external keypad. The front case is screwless and removes by pressing two side tabs, the cooling fan can be replaced without tools, and a removable RFI jumper adapts the EMC filter to earthed or non-earthed supplies. Delta coats 100 percent of the printed circuit boards to IEC 60721-3-3 class 3C2, and an optional NEMA 1 kit improves protection where dust is present.

Side-by-side installation is supported at minus 20 to 40 degrees Celsius, and standalone installation is rated to 50 degrees Celsius without derating, with a maximum ambient of 60 degrees Celsius. DC plus and minus terminals allow a common DC bus between drives, so regenerative energy from one motor can be shared with others during deceleration. Built-in RS-485 Modbus, a 10 kHz pulse input for speed reference and analogue inputs of 0 to 10 V or 4 to 20 mA make the drive easy to connect to a PLC or a simple panel.

  • Built-in brake chopper and Deceleration Energy Backup to stop the motor safely when power fails.
  • Safe Torque Off complying with ISO 13849-1 Category 3 PL d, EN 61508 SIL2, EN 62061 SIL CL 2 and EN 60204-1 Category 0.
  • Application groups (macros) and screwless control terminals for fast set-up and wiring.

Industrial Applications

The Delta ME300 is a natural fit for booster pump sets in residential towers and hotels in Muscat, for irrigation pumps on farms in Al Batinah and Dhofar, and for small transfer pumps in water treatment and desalination plants. Its multi-pump control lets one set of drives rotate duty between pumps so running hours are equalised, which matters in hot climates where pump motors run for long periods. In factories it drives conveyors, small fans, mixers and packaging machines where a compact drive with basic vector control is enough.

Facility management companies across the GCC often standardise on a small number of drive models to simplify spares. The Delta ME300 suits that approach for loads up to 7.5 kW, sitting below the larger Delta vector and HVAC drives. Seven Star LLC supplies the Delta ME300 with the appropriate accessories, and our Muscat team supports contractors with model selection, parameter guidance for pump control and replacement of legacy Delta VFD-S and VFD-M drives.

About brand
Delta, founded in 1971 in Taiwan, is known on the factory floor for compact PLCs, drives and power supplies. Its DVP controllers are small PLCs often seen in machine panels. Seven Star LLC lists the Delta DVP04AD-S2 analog input module and the ESR-48/30D rectifier module, and sources Delta PLC modules and power parts for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Delta PLC families and the DVP slim line

Delta's controller program runs from the DVP series through the modular AS series to the AH series. Inside the DVP series, the slim CPUs (among them DVP-SS2, SA2, SX2, SV2 and SE) take slim expansion modules on their right side. The DVP04AD-S2 is one of these: a four-channel analog input module for voltage or current signals, which the CPU reads with FROM and TO instructions.

Ordering Delta parts: what we need

For PLC modules, send the complete type from the side label, including the suffix, and the CPU model it will join. For a rectifier module, send the type, the DC output voltage and current, the AC input, and the model of the power shelf or system it plugs into.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ratings are available in the Delta ME300 series?
According to the Delta catalogue, 115 V single-phase models cover 0.1 to 0.75 kW, 230 V single-phase models 0.1 to 2.2 kW, 230 V three-phase models 0.1 to 5.5 kW and 460 V three-phase models 0.4 to 7.5 kW. Single-phase 230 V and three-phase 460 V models can be ordered with a built-in C2 EMC filter.
Can the Delta ME300 run a group of pumps?
Yes. The Delta ME300 includes multi-pump control with alternate operation, where duty rotates between pumps on an hourly, daily or weekly cycle, and constant pressure mode, where the number of running pumps follows real-time demand. Up to four drives are shown in the Delta master and slave examples.
Which control methods does the Delta ME300 use?
The drive offers V/f and sensorless vector control (SVC). It supports induction motors as well as interior and surface permanent magnet motors, with 150 percent starting torque at 3 Hz for induction motors in heavy duty according to the general specifications.
Does the Delta ME300 need a braking resistor?
Not always. Its Deceleration Energy Control Mode shortens braking time by managing motor speed and current, and Delta shows a deceleration example reduced from 21 seconds to 7.8 seconds. Where more braking torque is needed, the built-in brake chopper accepts an external resistor.
Does Seven Star LLC supply the Delta ME300 in Oman?
Yes. Seven Star LLC supplies the Delta ME300 and its NEMA 1 kits and accessories to pump packagers, HVAC contractors and machine builders in Oman and the GCC. Our Muscat engineers confirm the model code, supply voltage and filter option before order.
