Returning braking energy to the mains instead of burning it

The Delta REG2000 series power regenerative unit replaces the traditional brake unit and brake resistor on AC motor drives and servo systems with a DC bus. Instead of dissipating regenerative energy as heat, it converts it into usable power and returns it to the mains with more than 95 percent power regeneration efficiency, which reduces heat in the panel and saves energy.

The catalogue (June 2021) highlights a compact design with the reactor included, a 50 percent space saving against a drive plus brake unit plus brake resistor for a 55 kW 400 V example, RS-485 Modbus communication for real-time monitoring of regenerated energy, and braking capability improved up to 150 percent from the 125 percent of braking resistors. Where regeneration pays back

The catalogue names large-inertia loads (centrifuges, industrial laundries, heavy duty conveyors, roving machines, gantry machine tools), four-quadrant loads (elevators, cranes and hoists, pumpjacks), quick braking applications (machine tools, bag making, automatic storage and retrieval, presses) and long-term energy feedback (printing machines, escalators). Delta PLC families and the DVP slim line

Delta's controller program runs from the DVP series through the modular AS series to the AH series. Inside the DVP series, the slim CPUs (among them DVP-SS2, SA2, SX2, SV2 and SE) take slim expansion modules on their right side.
