Delta DVP Series Programmable Logic Controllers (ES3, ES2, EH3, SS2, SA2, SE, MC)

Description

The Delta DVP family of compact PLCs

The Delta DVP Series is Delta’s long-running range of programmable logic controllers. The catalogue (September 2022) covers standard PLCs (DVP-E series: EC3, ES2, EX2, ES3 and EH3), slim PLCs (DVP-S series: SS2, SA2, SX2, SE and SV2), general motion controllers (DVP-PM), multi-axis motion controllers (DVP-MC), extension modules and the TP series touch and text panels with built-in PLC. It also describes the ISPSoft editing software.

The newest standard model in the catalogue is the 3rd generation DVP-ES3, which adopts the high performance processor of the AS series with a 25 ns basic instruction time, built-in 32, 48, 64 or 80 I/O points, built-in RS-485, Ethernet and CANopen, and support for Modbus, Modbus TCP and EtherNet/IP. The catalogue says ES3 offers 64k steps of program capacity against 16k steps on ES2.

Choosing a DVP series

The catalogue function overview helps match power supply, I/O count, program capacity, output type, communication ports, positioning and high-speed counting to a series. EC3 suits basic sequence control, ES2 and EX2 standard machines with RS-485 and Modbus, EH3 and SV2 demanding multi-axis positioning, SS2 and SA2 compact slim applications, and SE small Ethernet-connected systems. Extension modules include digital and analog I/O, temperature, load cell, positioning and communication modules; DVP-S series modules fit slim PLCs and ES3, ES2 and EX2 use the E2 module family.

For a single module, see the Delta DVP04AD-S2 analog input module in our range. For new designs with more modules or EtherNet/IP, the Delta AS series is the newer platform.

Points to confirm

State the full model code (power, output type and options), hardware version, extension modules and the programming software in an RFQ. Check that the selected series supports the communication protocol needed, for example CANopen on ES2 variants with the C suffix. For more PLC and I/O items see the PLC and I/O category.

How the DELTA-DVP works

A DVP controller reads its input points, runs the user program and then writes its output points. The program is written and edited in the ISPSoft software. Larger models add network ports, high-speed counters and pulse outputs so the same controller can also drive motion.

Where the DELTA-DVP is used

  • Machine control
  • Packaging lines
  • Small process skids
  • Multi-axis motion systems

About brand

Delta, founded in 1971 in Taiwan, is known on the factory floor for compact PLCs, drives and power supplies. Its DVP controllers are small PLCs often seen in machine panels. Seven Star LLC lists the Delta DVP04AD-S2 analog input module and the ESR-48/30D rectifier module, and sources Delta PLC modules and power parts for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Delta PLC families and the DVP slim line

Delta's controller program runs from the DVP series through the modular AS series to the AH series. Inside the DVP series, the slim CPUs (among them DVP-SS2, SA2, SX2, SV2 and SE) take slim expansion modules on their right side. The DVP04AD-S2 is one of these: a four-channel analog input module for voltage or current signals, which the CPU reads with FROM and TO instructions.

Ordering Delta parts: what we need

For PLC modules, send the complete type from the side label, including the suffix, and the CPU model it will join. For a rectifier module, send the type, the DC output voltage and current, the AC input, and the model of the power shelf or system it plugs into.
