Endress+Hauser TMS01 iTHERM MultiSens Flex Multipoint
Description
Endress+Hauser TMS01 iTHERM MultiSens Flex multipoint thermometer
The TMS01 is a flanged iTHERM MultiSens Flex multipoint thermometer with flexible sensors for three-dimensional temperature profiling in vessels, reactors and tanks. Many individual metal-sheathed RTD or thermocouple elements pass through one flange, and each can be placed at its own depth and position. The manufacturer also offers it for linear installation in existing thermowells, which makes it a retrofit option when a reactor already has thermowells in place and only the measuring bundle is to be replaced.
Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, handles TMS01 enquiries for refinery, petrochemical and fertiliser customers in Oman and the GCC. Each unit is engineered to the nozzle and layout, so the useful starting point is a drawing of the vessel and a list of the measuring points.

What a TMS01 is made of
The TMS01 is modular. Single-point inserts consist of a sheathed element, extension cable and bushing, and can be replaced by releasing the compression fitting on the flange. Multi-point inserts use several independent thermocouple cables in one probe, each sealed with potting and an extension cable, giving a double-sealed design known as ProfileSens. Beyond the inserts there are the flange (with eyebolts), a hinged-cover junction box, a neck that can be a modular support frame or a tube extension, and accessories such as clips, weld-on plates, sealing sleeves, centering stars and labels for point identification. Where extra protection is needed, individual thermowells can be welded to the flange.
Reading the profile: how TMS01 sensors measure
Pt100 elements follow IEC 60751 and measure by a change in platinum resistance; thermocouples generate a voltage proportional to the temperature difference between hot and cold junction. When thermocouples are used, an iTEMP head transmitter provides the reference junction with ±1 K accuracy. Sensor-by-sensor data lets operators see radial and axial gradients and spot hot streaks developing in a bed. Accuracy follows IEC 60584 class 2 for thermocouples as standard, and thin-film or wire-wound Pt100 in IEC class A or AA options are listed.
Related parts: TMS02, TMS11 and spares
Customers choosing a TMS01 usually compare it with the TMS02, which shares the MultiSens Flex concept but is built with a diagnostic chamber and a 200 bar rating, and with the TMS11, which places a straight sensor array in a primary thermowell. Replacement single-point inserts use standard roots such as TSC310 and TST310. Head transmitters with HART, PROFIBUS PA, FOUNDATION Fieldbus or PROFINET output fit in the junction box, and the manufacturer lists SIL functional safety among the available certifications.
TMS01 selection and ordering checklist
- Vessel or reactor nozzle: standard, size, rating, facing and material.
- Whether the unit goes onto a flange directly or into existing thermowells.
- Number of points, layout (linear or 3D) and individual sensor lengths.
- Sensor technology: thermocouple J, K or N, or Pt100 wire-wound, thin-film or StrongSens.
- Single-point or multi-point (ProfileSens) inserts.
- Process temperature and pressure against the 100 bar family limit.
- Neck design (support frame or tube) and junction-box size, material and rating.
- Transmitters or terminals, communication protocol and hazardous-area class.
Installing and servicing a TMS01
Handle the device by the eyebolt only; a representative 12-sensor, 3 in flange build weighs around 40 kg. Do not loosen any threaded part of the process connection while the process is in operation. Calibration of single sensors can be done at the factory before assembly or on site with the service team’s help. For multipoint cable inserts, the manufacturer points to its separate ProfileSens documentation. During commissioning, confirm that each tagged channel reads the correct physical position, and photograph the wiring before closing the junction box. When a sensor drifts or fails, the single-point design lets that element be replaced without discarding the whole assembly.
Where the TMS01 is used in Oman and the GCC
The manufacturer lists olefins, ethylene, propylene, aromatics, benzene, nitrogen-based inorganics, ammonia, urea, NGL production, distillation and hydrogenation among its process applications. In the Gulf that means steam crackers, aromatics units, fertiliser plants and gas-liquids processing. Hot ambient conditions and dust call for tightly sealed junction boxes, and the ability to use an existing thermowell is useful on older reactors where re-welding a nozzle is not welcome.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used
In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.
Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need
The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.
