Delta MS300 Standard Compact AC Motor Drive

Description

Overview

The Delta MS300 is the standard compact drive in the Delta Electronics micro drive family. Delta describes it as a new generation high performance compact vector control drive that is up to 40 percent smaller than earlier models while keeping functions normally found on larger drives: a built-in PLC, communication card slots, a USB port, Safe Torque Off and support for both induction and permanent magnet motors. It is intended for machine builders and system integrators who need many small motors controlled reliably in limited panel space, from packaging and textile machines to pumps and fans.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Delta MS300 to OEM workshops, maintenance departments and panel shops across Oman and the GCC. From Muscat, our engineers help select the right supply voltage, rating, EMC filter option and enclosure type, and they can recommend the Delta MS300 as a replacement path for older Delta VFD-B and VFD-M drives that Delta itself lists as superseded by this series.

Working Principle

The drive converts the fixed frequency mains supply into a DC link and then switches it through an inverter bridge to produce a variable voltage, variable frequency output for the motor. By changing frequency the drive changes motor speed, and by managing the ratio between voltage and frequency, or by running a vector model of the motor, it controls torque. The Delta MS300 delivers 200 percent starting torque at 0.5 Hz and keeps speed stable as load changes, which matters on machines with dynamic loading such as tool changers and woodworking spindles.

Two power-loss features are worth noting. Deceleration Energy Backup (DEB) brings the motor to a controlled stop when the supply fails unexpectedly, so tools and products are not damaged, and it can return the motor to its previous speed when power comes back. Deceleration Energy Control Mode adjusts motor speed and current to shorten braking time, and in suitable applications it reduces the need for an external braking resistor. A built-in brake chopper remains available when larger braking torque is required.

Engineering Design of the Delta MS300

The Delta MS300 is built in frames A to F. Its enclosure options include IP20 for cabinet mounting, IP40 models with strengthened fan coating and concealed air vents that keep dust out, and IP66 / NEMA 4X models that can be mounted directly on or beside the machine. The printed circuit boards are 100 percent coated to IEC 60721-3-3 class 3C2 for moisture, corrosion and dust resistance, and selected models carry a built-in Class A (C2) EMC filter so additional filters and wiring are not needed.

Installation details have been simplified throughout. The keypad is removable, a built-in USB port allows parameter upload and download without extra converters, control terminals use a screwless wiring design, and drives can be mounted side by side at operating temperatures of minus 20 to 40 degrees Celsius. An optional 24 VDC external power card keeps the control board and communications alive when the mains supply is off, which is useful for networked machines that must keep reporting status.

  • Built-in RS-485 Modbus, with optional PROFIBUS DP, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, CANopen and EtherCAT cards.
  • Standard models run 0 to 599 Hz, while high-speed models reach 0 to 1500 Hz.
  • Carrier frequency adjustable from 2 to 15 kHz, with a default of 4 kHz.

Industrial Applications

Delta lists machine tools, woodworking machines, automatic tool changers, pumps, packaging machines and textile machines among the main applications for the Delta MS300. In Oman these duties appear in food and beverage plants in the Rusayl and Sohar industrial estates, in fabrication workshops supporting the oil and gas sector, and in building services where small pumps and fans run in hotels, hospitals and commercial towers in Muscat. The IP66 version suits wash-down areas and outdoor skids where a separate enclosure would add cost.

For water and irrigation contractors, the Delta MS300 offers a compact way to add speed control to small pumps, while the built-in PLC can handle simple sequencing without a separate controller. Seven Star LLC supplies the Delta MS300 with suitable option cards and accessories, and our Muscat team supports engineers working across the GCC with selection, parameter guidance and replacement planning for legacy drives.

About brand
Delta, founded in 1971 in Taiwan, is known on the factory floor for compact PLCs, drives and power supplies. Its DVP controllers are small PLCs often seen in machine panels. Seven Star LLC lists the Delta DVP04AD-S2 analog input module and the ESR-48/30D rectifier module, and sources Delta PLC modules and power parts for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Delta PLC families and the DVP slim line

Delta's controller program runs from the DVP series through the modular AS series to the AH series. Inside the DVP series, the slim CPUs (among them DVP-SS2, SA2, SX2, SV2 and SE) take slim expansion modules on their right side. The DVP04AD-S2 is one of these: a four-channel analog input module for voltage or current signals, which the CPU reads with FROM and TO instructions.

Ordering Delta parts: what we need

For PLC modules, send the complete type from the side label, including the suffix, and the CPU model it will join. For a rectifier module, send the type, the DC output voltage and current, the AC input, and the model of the power shelf or system it plugs into.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the power range of the Delta MS300?
The Delta catalogue lists 115 V single-phase models from 0.2 to 0.75 kW, 230 V single-phase models from 0.2 to 2.2 kW, 230 V three-phase models from 0.2 to 15 kW, 460 V three-phase models from 0.4 to 22 kW and 575 V three-phase models from 0.75 to 7.5 kW. IP66 / NEMA 4X and high-speed versions are offered in selected ratings.
Does the Delta MS300 support permanent magnet motors?
Yes. The Delta MS300 controls both induction motors and surface permanent magnet motors, and it stores four independent induction motor parameter sets. Delta quotes 200 percent starting torque at 0.5 Hz, which helps on machines that start under load.
What is the difference between standard and high-speed Delta MS300 models?
