Delta CP2000 Fan and Pump Vector Control Drive

Description

Overview

The Delta CP2000 is the Delta Electronics AC motor drive dedicated to fans, pumps and HVAC systems. Delta built it around variable torque loads: it includes special HVAC parameters and PID control for efficient operation, a multi-segment V/F curve, soft start, fire mode and bypass functions, and multi-pump control for up to 8 motors. With ratings from 0.75 kW at 230 V up to 630 kW at 460 V and 690 V, a single drive family can cover small exhaust fans in a commercial building and large cooling tower fans or circulation pumps in a central plant.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Delta CP2000 to MEP contractors, facility management companies, district cooling operators and water utilities across Oman and the GCC. Our engineers in Muscat check the supply voltage, duty rating and frame size against the Delta catalogue, recommend communication cards for the building management system, and support commissioning teams on projects in Muscat, Duqm and Salalah.

Operating Principle

Fans and centrifugal pumps follow the affinity laws: flow is proportional to speed, and absorbed power falls roughly with the cube of speed. Reducing speed by a modest amount therefore cuts power sharply compared with throttling a valve or damper at full speed. The Delta CP2000 exploits this by holding a process variable such as duct static pressure, differential pressure across a chilled water loop or supply water temperature at a setpoint through its PID controller, slowing the motor whenever demand allows. When demand falls far enough the sleep function stops the motor, and the drive wakes it again when the measured value drifts away from the setpoint.

Under the hood the Delta CP2000 offers V/F control with a 4-point adjustable curve, sensorless vector control (SVC) and a permanent magnet motor mode, with up to 150 percent or more starting torque at 0.5 Hz according to the general specifications. Auto energy saving adjusts the output voltage to the load at constant speed. Flying start lets the drive catch a fan that is already windmilling, and auto restart after a momentary power loss brings ventilation and pumping back without operator action.

Engineering Design of the Delta CP2000

The Delta CP2000 uses a modular construction: a hot pluggable LCD keypad, I/O extension cards, communication cards and removable fans. The keypad is a text panel that can be customised with Delta TP Editor software, and parameter groups and parameter copy speed up commissioning of many identical drives. Circuit boards carry enhanced conformal coating for durability in critical environments, and depending on the rating the drive includes a DC choke, a brake unit and an EMC filter. Delta rates operation at up to 50 degrees Celsius in light duty at 2 kHz carrier frequency, with IP20 open type or UL Type 1 / NEMA 1 enclosures depending on frame.

A built-in PLC with 10k steps and a real-time clock lets the drive handle time-based schedules and local logic, such as alternating duty pumps or running ventilation to a timetable, even when the building management system is offline. Built-in BACnet MS/TP and Modbus reduce wiring for building automation, and optional cards add BACnet IP, PROFINET, PROFIBUS DP, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP and CANopen. Dual ratings for light duty and normal duty let engineers size the drive to the real load profile.

  • Deceleration Energy Backup to bring the motor to a controlled stop on sudden power failure.
  • Maximum output frequency of 599 Hz and enhanced conformal coating on PCBs.

Industrial Applications

Cooling dominates electrical demand in Oman and the GCC, so fan and pump drives have a direct effect on operating cost. The Delta CP2000 is suited to chilled water and condenser water pumps, cooling tower fans, air handling units, car park ventilation and stair pressurisation fans in commercial towers, hotels, hospitals and shopping malls in Muscat. Its fire mode helps engineers meet the smoke control intent of the building design, while BACnet integration lets the facility team monitor every drive from the building management system.

Outside buildings, the Delta CP2000 serves municipal water pumping stations, irrigation networks, desalination plant transfer pumps and industrial cooling water systems in the Sohar and Salalah free zones. Seven Star LLC supplies the Delta CP2000 with matching keypads and communication cards, and our Muscat team supports utilities and contractors with selection, multi-pump configuration and spare drive planning.

About brand
Delta, founded in 1971 in Taiwan, is known on the factory floor for compact PLCs, drives and power supplies. Its DVP controllers are small PLCs often seen in machine panels. Seven Star LLC lists the Delta DVP04AD-S2 analog input module and the ESR-48/30D rectifier module, and sources Delta PLC modules and power parts for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Delta PLC families and the DVP slim line

Delta's controller program runs from the DVP series through the modular AS series to the AH series. Inside the DVP series, the slim CPUs (among them DVP-SS2, SA2, SX2, SV2 and SE) take slim expansion modules on their right side. The DVP04AD-S2 is one of these: a four-channel analog input module for voltage or current signals, which the CPU reads with FROM and TO instructions.

Ordering Delta parts: what we need

For PLC modules, send the complete type from the side label, including the suffix, and the CPU model it will join. For a rectifier module, send the type, the DC output voltage and current, the AC input, and the model of the power shelf or system it plugs into.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Delta CP2000 designed for?
Delta designed the CP2000 for energy-saving HVAC systems and for pump and fan applications. It carries dedicated HVAC parameters, PID control with sleep and wake-up, flying start, skip frequency and a 4-point adjustable V/F curve for variable torque loads.
Does the Delta CP2000 support BACnet?
Yes. BACnet MS/TP and Modbus over RS-485 are built in. Optional cards add BACnet IP, PROFINET, PROFIBUS DP, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP and CANopen, so the drive can report to a building management system or a plant PLC.
What is fire mode on the Delta CP2000?
Fire mode and bypass functions keep the fan running to maintain pressure and extract smoke when an emergency occurs, rather than tripping on protective faults. The exact behaviour is configured by parameters and must be engineered with the life safety design of the building.
How many pumps can one Delta CP2000 coordinate?
Delta states that the CP2000 provides synchronous control of up to 8 motors at one time, with fixed amount and fixed time circulation control. This allows duty and standby pumps to share running hours on chilled water and condenser water systems.
Does Seven Star LLC supply the Delta CP2000 in Oman?
Yes. Seven Star LLC supplies the Delta CP2000 and its communication cards and keypads to HVAC contractors, district cooling operators and water utilities in Oman and the GCC. Our Muscat engineers check voltage, duty rating and frame against the Delta catalogue before order.
