ABB EF370-380 Electronic Overload Relay 115-380 A

Description

EF370-380: top-of-range electronic overload relay

EF370-380 is the highest-rated ABB EF relay in the data sheet, with a setting range of 115 to 380 A. The ABB e-catalogue pairs it with AF265 to AF370 contactors, including the AF265-30-11-13 and AF370-30-11-13 on this site.

It is self-supplied, rated 1000 V AC and provides one N.C. trip and one N.O. signal contact with automatic or manual reset selectable.

Protecting 90-200 kW motors

A 115 to 380 A scale covers motors from roughly 55 kW to 200 kW at 400 V. IEC short-circuit protection is a 1600 A gG fuse, and the UL table gives an 800 A class L or T fuse with 18 kA SCCR. Tightening torque for the bar connection is 28 Nm.

The relay is 105 mm wide, 187.6 mm tall and 122.8 mm deep, weighing 1.338 kg. ABB states a high accuracy and a wide operating temperature range, with temperature compensation from -25 to +70 C.

Practical selection notes

Select the trip class from the starting time: 10E for normal, 20E or 30E for heavy starts such as large fans or crushers. Trip class is selected on the front, so it can be changed during commissioning.

If the motor current is below 115 A the EF205-210 gives better resolution; above 380 A this relay is outside its range and a different protection arrangement is required.

Remember the general rule printed in ABB’s EF data sheets: the relay must itself be protected against short-circuit, so the 1600 A gG fuse (or the UL fuse in your region) belongs in the feeder design. The data sheet also lists the 1000 V rated operational voltage and conformity to the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU, which can be quoted in tender submittals.

Documents and quotation

Seven Star LLC supplies the EF370-380 on request from Muscat, with availability and lead time confirmed in the quotation. Related motor-starter parts are in the Contactors and Overload Relays category, including the ABB TA25DU1.4 thermal overload relay.

Confirm before ordering: motor full-load current and the trip class your process needs, the contactor frame it will mount on, and the short-circuit device in your feeder.

About brand

ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

ABB company profile

Choosing an ABB drive

ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.

Where ABB products are used

In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.

Ordering ABB products: what we need

Send the full type code from the nameplate (for example ACS580-01-046A-4 or 266DSH...) and, for spare parts, the ABB ID number (such as 3BSE008508R1 or 1SBL176001R3010). For drives, add the motor power and current and any option codes (+...). For instruments, send the complete order code, which sets range, materials and approvals. Baldor motors are listed on their own brand page.
