ABB AF30-30-00-13 Three-Pole Contactor, 15 kW 100-250 V

Description

The AF30-30-00-13 is a three-pole AC/DC-operated contactor from ABB’s AF range, ordered as 1SBL277001R1300. It switches motor and power circuits up to 690 V AC and 220 V DC, and ABB gives it a 15 kW rating at 400 V in utilisation category AC-3 (20 hp at 480 V under UL). The -13 suffix selects the electronic coil for 100 to 250 V 50/60 Hz and 100 to 250 V DC, so one coil covers both 230 V 50 Hz and 120 V 60 Hz control supplies. Other contactors and overload relays are listed under contactors and overload relays, such as the smaller AF09-30-10-11.

Coil, built-in surge protection and control supply

AF contactors use an electronic coil interface with reduced pull-in and holding consumption, and four coils cover control voltages from 24 to 500 V AC and 20 to 500 V DC. The -13 coil handles wide supply variations, so 230 V 50 Hz in Europe and 120 V or 208 V 60 Hz in North America use the same part number. Surge protection is built in and no additional suppressor is needed. The drop-out voltage is 60 percent of the minimum coil voltage or less, and the operating limits are 0.85 x Uc min to 1.1 x Uc max at 60 C. If a 24 V DC PLC output has to drive the contactor directly, ABB points to the AF..Z low-consumption types rather than this coil.

Overload relay, accessories and installation

For motor starting, ABB pairs the AF30 with a thermal overload relay such as the TF42; the TF42 range mounts directly on AF09 to AF38 contactors. Front accessories include CA4 auxiliary blocks, a CAT4-11 with coil terminals and VEM4 interlocks, and side accessories such as the CAL4-11 side-mounted 1 NO + 1 NC block. The contactor snaps onto a 35 mm rail or is fixed with two M4 screws, can be assembled side by side and tolerates a mounting angle of plus or minus 30 degrees around position 1.

Ordering code and what to confirm

AF30 is the frame, 30 means three poles with no built-in auxiliary contacts, and the last two digits select the coil: -11 for 24 to 60 V, -12 for 48 to 130 V, -13 for 100 to 250 V and -14 for 250 to 500 V. Confirm the coil voltage, the motor current at the supply voltage, auxiliary contact needs and the overload relay before ordering. The photo shows the AF contactor family as shown by ABB for this part.

Key features of the AF30-30-00-13

  • One coil for AC and DC control: the electronic coil accepts 100 to 250 V at 50/60 Hz or DC, which reduces the number of coil variants kept as spares.
  • Low holding consumption: about 2 W once closed, so control transformers and power supplies can be smaller and panel heat is reduced.
  • Tolerance of supply dips: electronically controlled coils of this type are designed to hold reliably across a wide voltage band, helping on networks with fluctuating control voltage.
  • No built-in auxiliaries: the -00 version leaves auxiliary contact choice to the panel designer, who can fit front or side-mounted blocks as needed.
  • High mechanical durability: rated for 10 million operations.

Selecting by utilisation category

The AC-3 rating of 15 kW at 400 V applies to squirrel-cage motors that are started and switched off while running, the typical direct-on-line case. For resistive loads such as heaters, the AC-1 rating of 50 A at 40 °C is the relevant one, and it falls as ambient temperature rises. Hermetic refrigeration compressors are covered by the AC-8a value. Applications with frequent inching, plugging or reversing (AC-4) need a larger contactor than the AC-3 table suggests, so mention this duty when requesting a selection check.

Star-delta and reversing combinations

In star-delta starters, the line and delta contactors carry the phase current, which is lower than the motor line current, so an AF30 can serve larger motors in that arrangement than in direct-on-line starting. Reversing starters use two contactors with a mechanical interlock and electrical interlocking through auxiliary contacts; order the interlock and auxiliary blocks together with the contactors.

Panel design and maintenance

Tighten main terminals to the specified 2.5 Nm and use the correct conductor cross-section from 2.5 to 10 mm². Check terminal tightness after initial run-in, since thermal cycling can loosen connections. Contact wear depends on the switching duty; on heavily cycled motors, periodic inspection and replacement of contactors before failure is cheaper than unplanned downtime.

Operation in hot Gulf panels

Motor control centres and pump panels in Oman often run warm, particularly in outdoor kiosks. The contactor itself is rated from -25 to +60 °C with an overload relay fitted. Panel cooling and ventilation should keep the internal temperature within that range, and AC-1 current derating should be applied when the panel temperature is above 40 °C. Dust ingress should be limited with filtered ventilation or sealed enclosures.

About brand

ABB, formed in 1988 and headquartered in Zurich, covers an unusually long stretch of a plant's equipment list, from the flowmeter and analyzer in the field to the drive, breaker and protection relay in the electrical room.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier serving Oman and the GCC. Our ABB listing concentrates on measurement and analytics: ABB flowmeters, liquid analysis sensors and systems, level and pressure instruments. It also includes valve actuators, low voltage circuit breakers, ABB drives, soft starters and protection relays.

ABB product families on this page

Flow measurement includes ABB electromagnetic, Coriolis, vortex and swirl meters, sold under names such as ProcessMaster, AquaMaster, CoriolisMaster and SwirlMaster. Liquid analysis covers pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen sensors with their transmitters. SensyTemp TSP sensors handle temperature. On the electrical side the listing has ACS355 machinery drives, the ACS550 general purpose drive, the ACQ580 for water and wastewater and the ACS880-01 industrial drive, with fieldbus adapters such as the FPBA-01 for PROFIBUS DP. Protection and switching products include SACE Tmax XT molded case breakers, SACE Emax 2 air circuit breakers, PSR soft starters and the REM615 and RET615 relays.

Where ABB instruments and drives are used

Water and wastewater plants use the electromagnetic flowmeters, analyzers and ACQ580 drives together. Oil and gas, power and chemical plants specify the Coriolis and vortex meters, pressure and level transmitters and the 615 series relays for motor and transformer feeders. The drives run pumps, fans, conveyors and compressors in almost every industry.

Ordering ABB parts: what we need

For drives send the full type code from the rating label, for example ACS355-03E-05A6-4, plus the serial number if it is a replacement. For instruments send the complete order code, measuring span, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol and the hazardous area approval. For breakers give frame size, rated current, breaking capacity, number of poles, trip unit and fixed or withdrawable version.
