ABB AF140-30-11-13 3-Pole Contactor 75 kW 100-250 V AC/DC

Description

AF140 contactor that reaches 75 kW in a 90 mm frame

AF140-30-11-13 packs 140 A of AC-3 capacity into the same 90 x 150 x 126 mm body as the AF116, so the e-catalogue puts it at 75 kW at 400 V, 90 kW at 440 V and 200 A in AC-1 at 40 C. A built-in 1 N.O. + 1 N.C. auxiliary contact pair is included, and the double-clamp terminals take two conductors per pole.

It is the contactor to look at when a motor starter or a by-pass contactor must carry roughly 130 to 140 A without stepping up to the 105 mm AF190/AF205 frame. ABB lists operation to 3000 m altitude and 5 million mechanical operations.

Sizing a 75 kW starter around the AF140

A 75 kW, 400 V motor draws about 135 A, which sits close to the contactor’s 140 A AC-3 limit, so check starting duty and overload class before locking the choice. The rating falls to 130 A at 500 V and 80 A at 690 V. In AC-1 the table gives 200 A at 40 C and 160 A at 70 C.

Fault withstand is 1460 A for one second, and the contactor needs a 315 A gG fuse when no overload relay is fitted. Breaking capacity is 3000 A at 440 V and 1500 A at 690 V. For DC loads, 160 A is allowed with two poles in series at 110 V or three at 220 V.

Type code and frame family

AF140 is the frame, 30 means three main poles, 11 means one N.O. and one N.C. built-in auxiliary contact, and 13 selects the 100…250 V AC/DC coil. The 7320500476949 UPC identifies this exact order code.

Frame-mates in the e-catalogue include AF116-30-11-13 (same body, lower rating). Match overload relays from the EF146 family, then confirm whether your design needs the larger AF190 frame.

Documents and quotation

The linked file is an extract (pages 19 and 20) of ABB’s AF range catalogue 1SXU100109C0201, covering the AF116 to AF370 ordering tables; the e-catalogue entry for 1SFL447001R1311 supplied the technical values. Seven Star LLC supplies the AF140-30-11-13 on request from Muscat, and availability and lead time are given in the quotation. See the Contactors and Overload Relays category for other starters.

Confirm before ordering: control voltage and frequency, motor current at your supply voltage, the terminal type for your cable, and whether auxiliary contacts beyond the built-in 1 N.O. + 1 N.C. are needed.

About brand

ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

Choosing an ABB drive

ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.

Where ABB products are used

In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.
