ABB EF146-150 Electronic Overload Relay 54-150 A

Description

EF146-150: electronic overload relay for 75 kW-class motors

EF146-150 is the largest member of the EF65/EF96/EF146 data sheet and covers 54 to 150 A. ABB describes it for the AF116 to AF146 contactor frames, which on this site correspond to the AF116-30-11-13 and AF140-30-11-13 contactors.

At 89 mm wide and 150 mm tall it matches the 90 mm contactor body. The relay is self-supplied, rated 1000 V and has selectable trip classes 10E, 20E and 30E.

When replacing an older thermal relay, compare the load current and the contactor type before ordering. Send the order code 1SAX351001R1101 together with the contactor designation and the motor full-load current, so that the quotation covers the right relay and the matching mounting accessories.

Matching the relay to motor and contactor

A motor drawing 135 to 140 A at 400 V, the AC-3 limit of AF116 and AF140, sits comfortably within the 54 to 150 A range. Loss per pole runs from 0.21 W at 54 A to 1.58 W at 150 A, with 0.07 mOhm resistance. Fuse protection is 315 A gG.

The setting is the motor rated current; ABB specifies no trip at 1.05 x and trip at 1.2 x the setting. The relay offers temperature compensation from -25 to +70 C and sealable operating elements for tamper-proof set values.

Wiring and commissioning

Main terminals take 1 x 10 to 95 mm2 rigid or 10 to 70 mm2 flexible conductors, 20 mm stripped, at 8 Nm. That torque is double the EF65 value, so use a calibrated tool.

After wiring the trip contact 95-96 in series with the contactor coil, run the TEST function and then the STOP function; the data sheet logs the contact states for each mode.

Documents and quotation

Seven Star LLC supplies the EF146-150 on request from Muscat, with availability and lead time confirmed in the quotation. Related motor-starter parts are in the Contactors and Overload Relays category, including the ABB TA25DU1.4 thermal overload relay.

Confirm before ordering: motor full-load current and the trip class your process needs, the contactor frame it will mount on, and the short-circuit device in your feeder.

About brand

ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

ABB company profile

Formed 5 January 1988, by the merger of ASEA (Sweden) and BBC Brown Boveri (Switzerland), each holding 50%

Choosing an ABB drive

ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.

Where ABB products are used

In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.

Ordering ABB products: what we need

Send the full type code from the nameplate (for example ACS580-01-046A-4 or 266DSH...) and, for spare parts, the ABB ID number (such as 3BSE008508R1 or 1SBL176001R3010). For drives, add the motor power and current and any option codes (+...). For instruments, send the complete order code, which sets range, materials and approvals. Baldor motors are listed on their own brand page.
