The JUMO dTRANS O2 01 (type 202610) is an electrochemical, membrane-covered dissolved-oxygen sensor with the transmitter electronics built into its stainless-steel shaft. It returns an electrically isolated 4 to 20 mA signal proportional to the oxygen content and, from the standard version upwards, a second 4 to 20 mA two-wire signal for the medium temperature measured by a Pt1000. The built-in microprocessor corrects for temperature, atmospheric pressure (500 to 1500 hPa, or entered as height above sea level up to 3000 m) and salinity up to 40 g/kg, so a plant at altitude or in brackish water does not need a separate correction table. Calibration is a safe single-point procedure, and the sensor module is a replaceable item rather than a throwaway probe.

JUMO lists municipal and industrial sewage-treatment plants, drinking-water monitoring, pollution prevention, fresh- and salt-water fish farming and processing plants as the typical fields of use.

Choosing a version and decoding the type code

The type code reads 202610/ extension – output – range – cable length – supply – language. Extension 80 is the basic version with terminal box, 81 the standard version with the operating unit, and 82 the maximum version with relays and an AC-capable supply. Output code 006 is 4 to 20 mA with internal supply, 405 is 4 to 20 mA with external supply and 500 is a Pt1000 resistance output. Range 2000 is 0 to 20 mg/l; cable lengths are 08, 10 or 15 m; supply 23 is AC 110 to 240 V, 25 is AC/DC 20 to 30 V and 28 is DC 19 to 31 V. The last digit selects operator language: 1 German, 2 English, 3 French and 4 Spanish. The manufacturer states that the code is a designation rather than a free modular system, so any combination outside its tables must be released by JUMO. Listed combinations include 202610/80-500-2000-08-28-1 (00391336), 202610/81-405-2000-08-28-2 (00409019) and 202610/82-006-2000-08-23-2 (00406637).

Installation, fittings and spares

The transmitter is designed for flow-through, immersion, suspension or float fittings from the JUMO analysis accessory range. The flow-through angled-seat fitting is PVC, rated +5 to +50 °C and up to 1 bar, with solvent-weld sockets and a DN50 T-piece, so it suits bypass lines in aeration basins and effluent channels. JUMO advises installing the fitting where it can be reached for cleaning, using bypass lines with shut-off valves so the probe can be removed, and having the system designer confirm chemical compatibility of every wetted material. Because the signal is a 4 to 20 mA loop, the output can be read by a PLC or fed to the published JUMO dTRANS AS 02, which the datasheet shows as an indicator/controller with two relays. To select the right version, state the oxygen range in mg/l, the supply available (24 V loop, or mains for the maximum version) and whether the local operating unit with display is required. Sensor module replacement is a normal service step, so the buyer should plan spare modules. Tell us the process temperature, the water salinity and the site altitude, because the transmitter compensates for salinity up to 40 g/kg and for atmospheric pressure, either as a pressure value or as an altitude. The fitting must also be matched to the tank or channel, with a cable length to the sensor of 8 m fixed in the datasheet.
