Hach LBOD101 IntelliCAL Laboratory Luminescent Optical Dissolved oxygen
Description
Overview
The Hach IntelliCAL LBOD101 is a digital, luminescent dissolved oxygen probe engineered specifically for biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) testing in laboratory environments. It improves confidence in BOD procedures by reducing variance and maintenance while increasing stability, accuracy, precision, and tests per unit time.
With no membranes to foul or replace, no electrolyte to replenish, and a fast two-point calibration that stabilises quickly, the LBOD101 cuts the operational cost and downtime traditionally associated with electrochemical DO probes.
Engineering & Design
The LBOD101 is a luminescent optical sensor that measures dissolved oxygen based on an optical sensing element, eliminating the consumables and drift of Clark-cell probes. It integrates a thermistor for temperature measurement and an absolute air pressure sensor so that every DO reading is automatically compensated.
The probe fits directly onto standard BOD bottles and incorporates an integrated stirrer that agitates the sample during measurement, ensuring repeatable mixing without additional magnetic stirrers. The stirrer is controlled by an on-board button with a power indicator LED.

Compatibility & Integration
The LBOD101 connects to Hach meters that support IntelliCAL digital probes, with automatic probe recognition and stored calibration data via the iButton, so a calibrated probe can be moved between meters without re-calibration.
Laboratory Support
Seven Star LLC assists customers with the complete IntelliCAL ecosystem, including compatible Hach meters, replacement sensor caps, and calibration guidance for BOD5 programmes aligned with standard methods.
Our specialists answer method-related questions, helping laboratories in the Gulf region maintain accurate, compliant BOD measurements with reduced operator effort.
Operational Benefits
The LBOD101 directly improves laboratory productivity by eliminating membrane replacement, electrolyte management, and the calibration drift associated with electrochemical probes.
Its integrated stirrer removes a source of variation from BOD measurements, improving the repeatability that laboratories need for regulatory and client acceptance testing.
Stable calibrations lasting longer means fewer calibration checks per week and more time available for sample analysis.
For laboratories where the Hach IntelliCAL LBOD101 must deliver dependable results, Seven Star LLC supplies the Hach IntelliCAL LBOD101 with official documentation, our specialists support every Hach IntelliCAL LBOD101 installation with calibration guidance, and replacement Hach IntelliCAL LBOD101 sensor caps are available.
The Hach IntelliCAL LBOD101 probe is the luminescent DO probe of the IntelliCAL series, and the Hach IntelliCAL LBOD101 probe is used with the Hach laboratory meters for the dissolved oxygen measurement.
The Hach IntelliCAL LBOD101 probe is selected for the BOD measurement, and the LBOD101 probe is calibrated for the laboratory DO meter.

Setting Up the LBOD101 for BOD5 Work
The probe is often quoted as LBOD101 or LBOD10101, so check the full part number on the label on the cable or the packing list of your existing probe and confirm that your benchtop meter accepts IntelliCAL probes before ordering. Luminescent sensor caps have a limited service life, so when replacing a probe it is worth ordering a spare cap at the same time.
First Use and Calibration
- Connect the probe to the meter and allow it to be recognised; the meter reads the calibration history from the iButton on the sensor cap.
- Perform the 100% saturation calibration in water-saturated air, keeping the cap moist but free of droplets on the sensing surface.
- Use the zero-point calibration only when your method or quality system asks for it, and use fresh zero-oxygen solution when you do.
- Verify with an air-saturated water check and record the result in the laboratory QC log.
Good Practice During BOD Runs
Insert the probe into the BOD bottle so no air is trapped under the sensor, start the stirrer and wait for a stable reading before accepting the value. Rinse the probe with deionised water between bottles to avoid carrying seed or sample over, and blot gently rather than wiping the cap. For large batches, a regular check against a known dilution-water blank helps catch drift early, well before it affects reported results.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Slow or unstable readings: check for biological film or oil on the sensor cap and clean it following the Hach procedure; confirm the stirrer is running.
- Calibration rejected: make sure the calibration environment is saturated and at a steady temperature, and that the cap is not damaged or past its service life.
- Probe not recognised: inspect the connector pins and cable for damage, and confirm meter firmware supports the probe.
- Storage: keep the probe in its storage sleeve with a moist sponge or as described in the user manual, away from direct sunlight.
Use in Oman and GCC Laboratories
Municipal wastewater plants, industrial effluent laboratories at refineries and petrochemical sites, and environmental consultancies in the region run BOD5 as a routine compliance test. High ambient temperatures make incubator performance and temperature compensation particularly important, and the LBOD101’s built-in temperature and pressure compensation helps keep results consistent between labs at the coast and inland sites.
Ordering Through Seven Star LLC
Tell us the part number on your current probe, the meter model, and whether you also need replacement sensor caps or calibration accessories. We will confirm compatibility, availability and lead time so the laboratory is not left without a working BOD probe.

About brand
Water quality testing is the single subject Hach has worked on since 1947, from the reagent pillow in a field kit to online analyzers in a treatment plant. The company is based in Loveland, Colorado. Seven Star LLC lists Hach online analyzers, controllers, sensors, portable meters and reagents, and sources them for water, wastewater, power and process plants in Oman.
Hach analyzers, sensors and reagents listed
The Hach products on this page fall into four main groups, plus a few accessories such as a colorimeter, a reagent dispenser, a power supply and a flow control valve:
- Online analyzers: CL17sc colorimetric chlorine analyzer, TU5300sc and TU5400sc laser turbidimeters, BioTector B3500ul TOC analyzer, Polymetron 9245 sodium analyzer and Orbisphere 510 dissolved gas analyzer
- Controllers and digital sensors: SC4500 controller and the LDO 2 luminescent dissolved oxygen sensor
- Portable and laboratory instruments: 2100Q turbidimeter, HQ4200 multi-parameter meter and IntelliCAL probes such as the LBOD101
- Reagents: DPD free chlorine powder pillows and DEHA reagents for oxygen scavenger testing
Polymetron and Orbisphere analyzers are aimed at power plant water-steam cycles and similar pure water duties, where sodium, dissolved oxygen and other gases are measured at low levels.
Where Hach instruments are used
Hach instruments appear in drinking water plants, desalination, sewage treatment, cooling and boiler water circuits, and industrial effluent monitoring across the GCC. Operators use the portable meters and reagents for spot checks, and the sc analyzers and probes for continuous signals to the control system.
Ordering Hach products: what we need
Hach identifies every item by a catalog number, for example LXV416.99.20001 for a sensor or 21055-69 for a reagent pack, and the same reagent may be written with or without the dash. Send that number and the quantity. For analyzers and controllers, add the parameter and range, sample conditions, power supply, outputs and communication option. For sensors, tell us the controller model they will connect to and the cable length. For reagents, name the instrument and method so pack size and range can be confirmed against Hach documentation.
