The JUMO flowTRANS MAG I02 (type 406011) is a plug-in magnetic-inductive flowmeter with an integrated display. Standardized JUMO fittings (data sheet 406090) allow installation in pipes from DN 15 to DN 400, so one device type serves small process lines and large water mains. The sensor has no moving parts, tolerates CIP cleaning, and uses FDA-compliant wetted materials.

It handles neutral, contaminated and aggressive liquids with a minimum conductivity of 20 uS/cm and a viscosity below 1000 mPas, measuring flow velocities of 0.2 to 10 m/s. JUMO names industrial wastewater treatment and recovery, irrigation, drinking water and monitoring of cleaning cycles in food production as typical uses.

Ordering notes

The order code uses type 406011 and a sensor version (001 short sensor or 002 long sensor, depending on the fitting), the sensor material, the measuring electrode material, an output code (480 for 4 to 20 mA three-wire open collector with two relays), the electrical connection (82 cable fitting) and the supply (5 for DC 18 to 36 V). The sensor is plugged into a fitting that is ordered separately; fitting materials are PVC, PE, PP or stainless steel, and the fitting sets the temperature and pressure limits.

Spare parts printed with part numbers include PC and PPA lids with window (693539, 693548), cable-fitting sets (693568, 693590, 693607), FKM and EPDM seal sets (693610) and union nuts (693625, 693627).

Where the plug-in design pays off

Insertion sensors suit retrofits because there is no need to cut a spool piece for a flanged meter: a saddle or weld-in fitting is installed once and the sensor can be withdrawn later for service. Observe the inlet and outlet sections that the data sheet refers to, since the accuracy statement applies to those reference conditions.

Teach-In calibration against a reference volume improves the deviation from 3.5 percent to 0.5 percent of measured value. Relay outputs and the digital input add simple limit switching and counter reset without an external controller.

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.
