The Elster flow meter on this page is the Q.Sonic plus, a multipath ultrasonic gas meter for custody transfer measurement, listed together with a USM display unit. Flow computers come from two device series. The enCore series is represented by the enCore FC1 and the enCore ZM1. The gas-net series is represented by the gas-net F1 flow computer and the gas-net D2, a data forwarding unit for the DSfG station interface used in German-standard gas metering systems.
Where Elster gas metering equipment is used
Elster gas meters and flow computers work at transmission and distribution metering stations, city gate and pressure reduction stations, power plant and industrial fuel gas inlets, and gas storage sites. The flow computer converts measured volume to base conditions using pressure, temperature and gas quality data, records the fiscal archives and passes data to the SCADA system.
Ordering Elster meters and flow computers: what we need
For an ultrasonic meter: nominal size, pressure rating and flange standard, flow range, gas composition, operating pressure and temperature, the metrological approval required and the flow calibration expected. For a flow computer: device type, the serial number and software version of the existing unit, the I/O boards fitted, the meters and transmitters connected, the conversion and compressibility method (for example AGA 8) and the communication protocols. A photo of the type plate and the parameter printout shorten the check against the manufacturer’s documentation considerably.

What is the difference between the Elster gas-net and enCore flow computers?
They are two device series. gas-net units such as the F1, a flow computer with integrated data logger and DSfG interface, and the D2 are found in many existing stations. enCore devices such as the FC1 and ZM1 are a modular series built around process boards and configured with the enSuite software. If you are replacing a gas-net unit, send its configuration so we can check the manufacturer's current recommendation.
How do I identify the configuration of an enCore FC1 or ZM1?
The type plate shows the device type, serial number and approval marks, but the function is set by the process boards fitted and the software loaded. Send the type plate photo, the list of boards by slot and the software version shown in the device display or parameter file. Two units with the same name can be equipped very differently.
Which approvals come with an Elster ultrasonic gas meter for custody transfer?
For fiscal use, the manufacturer supplies the meter with the metrological approval documents applicable to the version ordered, and a flow calibration certificate from a test facility when a calibration is ordered. Pressure equipment and hazardous-area certificates are issued for the meter body and electronics. Name the approvals your authority or contract demands, since they must be ordered with the meter.
Are Elster and Honeywell Elster products the same?
Yes. Elster is the original brand, and the same product lines are sold today as Honeywell Elster. Type names such as Q.Sonic, enCore and gas-net were kept. Older type plates show only Elster or Elster-Instromet. Quote the type and serial number from your unit and we will match it to the current manufacturer documentation.
