Diagnostics and Hygienic Design

Both models incorporate ABB’s VeriMass on-board verification and diagnostics, which lets maintenance teams check sensor and transmitter integrity without removing the meter from the process line, supporting preventive maintenance schedules in continuous-duty plants. Optional DensiMass concentration measurement and FillMass batch-filling functions extend the base mass/volume/temperature measurement into concentration monitoring and automated filling applications. The polished 316L wetted parts and EHEDG/FDA-compliant construction make the FCH130/FCH150 equally suited to hygienic food and beverage duty as to hydrocarbon and chemical service, while the ATEX Zone 0/1/2 and cFMus certifications cover the hazardous-area classifications found across Oman’s refining, gas processing, and petrochemical sites.

Industrial Applications in Oman and the GCC

The FCH130 and FCH150 are suited to process measurement in chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, and food and beverage applications in the Sultanate of Oman and the broader Gulf region. The direct mass measurement principle removes the need for separate temperature or pressure compensation calculations required by volumetric technologies, which simplifies both the instrumentation loop and the plant’s custody-transfer accounting. In hygienic applications such as edible oil, dairy, or beverage filling lines, the EHEDG/FDA-compliant wetted parts and cleanable Tri-Clamp connections allow the same meter family to serve sanitary duty without a separate hygienic product line.

Seven Star LLC works with instrumentation engineers at gas plants in Sohar and Salalah, refineries in Muscat, and chemical processors across the GCC to size the correct FCH130 or FCH150 variant — nominal diameter, accuracy class, process connection, and hazardous-area certification — for the specific measured fluid and duty point, rather than supplying a generic Coriolis meter that may be oversized or under-rated for the application.

Choosing Between FCH130 and FCH150

The FCH130 is the cost-efficient choice for standard mass flow and density measurement where 0.2-0.4% accuracy is sufficient. The FCH150 steps up to 0.1-0.15% accuracy, an extended process temperature ceiling of 205°C, and the fuller VeriMass/DensiMass/FillMass diagnostic and functional package, making it the appropriate choice for high-accuracy measurement, high-temperature process duty, or applications that need on-line verification without interrupting production. Both share the same mechanical footprint and process connection options, so a plant can standardize on one meter body while selecting the transmitter grade that matches each measurement point’s accuracy and functional requirement.

Installation Notes

Coriolis meters of this class measure mass flow directly via the Coriolis effect induced in the vibrating measuring tubes, so no straight inlet section is required, while orientation and support of the meter body should follow ABB’s installation manual rather than the more forgiving requirements of some volumetric technologies. Confirm the process fluid’s viscosity, entrained gas content, and maximum operating pressure against the pressure limit of the selected hygienic connection (10 to 40 bar depending on type and size) before finalizing an order, since these affect achievable accuracy at the low end of the flow range.

ABB CoriolisMaster FCH130 / FCH150 – Frequently Asked Questions

FCH130 and FCH150 Integration: Modbus and Digital Outputs

The FCH130 and FCH150 are integration meters without a local display or analogue current output. All measured values and all configuration go through a Modbus RTU interface on RS485 (terminals A/B), and the device is powered from 11 to 30 V DC. Two passive digital outputs are provided: DO1 can be set as a pulse, frequency or switch output, DO2 as a pulse or switch output only, and the two outputs share a common terminal, so they are not isolated from each other. Up to 32 slaves can share one Modbus line.

This matters when the meter replaces an older Coriolis unit wired for 4 to 20 mA with HART: the receiving system needs a Modbus master or a pulse or frequency input. For Zone 1 or Division 1 installations the Modbus interface and digital outputs can be operated either in intrinsically safe or in non-intrinsically safe design, and the choice must match the connected equipment. When a mechanical counter is driven from the pulse output, ABB recommends a pulse width of at least 30 ms and a maximum frequency of 3 kHz.

Hygienic Connection Limits and Installation

On the hygienic FCH versions the process connection, not the sensor, usually sets the operating limit. A DIN 11851 threaded pipe connection is rated 40 bar up to DN 40 and 25 bar from DN 50 to DN 100, with a maximum temperature of 140 °C. A DIN 32676 Tri-Clamp is rated 16 bar up to DN 50 and 10 bar from DN 65 to DN 100, with a maximum of 120 °C. These figures sit below the 160 °C and 205 °C sensor limits of the FCH130 and FCH150, so CIP and SIP temperatures should be checked against the connection.

The sensor needs no straight inlet section, which helps on compact filling and dosing skids. For liquids the meter tube must stay completely full and dissolved gas must not come out of solution, and a shut-off device downstream is recommended so the zero point can be adjusted at no flow. In EHEDG-compliant installations the gaskets and the mating process connection selected by the operator must themselves be EHEDG-compliant. ABB documents both vertical and horizontal mounting positions, and the position chosen should follow the installation drawings for the medium being measured.
