Pfannenberg DTS 3031SS 230V Stainless Steel Cooling Unit
Description
DTS 3031SS 230V stainless steel cooling unit for NEMA 4X
The DTS 3031SS 230V is a side-mount cooling unit of the Pfannenberg NEMA range with a 304 stainless steel housing, 322 W cooling capacity and a 230 V single-phase supply. It is rated IP56 and NEMA 3R/4/4X. Seven Star LLC supplies the DTS 3031SS 230V in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
The code means DTS for side mount, 3031 for the small model of the NEMA 3000 range, SS for stainless steel and 230V for the supply. Its article number is 13383141158. A 115 V twin exists as article 13383144158. The unit is aimed at corrosive and washdown environments where painted steel would not last.

NEMA 4X and stainless steel on the DTS 3031SS 230V
NEMA 4X describes enclosures that resist corrosion, windblown dust and splashing or hose-directed water. The 304 stainless housing gives the unit the corrosion resistance that a painted steel cabinet cannot offer in chemical plants, food processing and coastal installations. The ratings IP56 and NEMA 3R/4/4X appear together in the data sheet because the unit is sold in both IEC and North American markets.
The stainless housing of the cooling unit is a natural match for a stainless steel enclosure, so that the whole assembly offers similar corrosion resistance at the interface.
Capacity and temperature range of the DTS 3031SS 230V
The unit delivers 322 W, an efficiency ratio of 1.27 and operates in ambient air from +8 to +45 °C, which is a narrower window than the 55 °C of the Green and X Series. In very hot sites with direct sun, check the ambient limit and consider a sunshade; otherwise a larger-range unit from the 6000 series is better.
Fit in the system and related parts
Siblings in the NEMA range include the DTS 3081, DTS 3181 and DTS 3281 with more capacity, and the DTS 3185 and DTS 3285 models. For non-stainless enclosures the Green Series DTFS 6021 230V gives about the same capacity at higher efficiency but with a lower ambient limit of +55 °C and the powder-coated housing.
DTS 3031SS 230V selection and ordering checklist
- Heat load below 322 W at the actual temperatures
- Stainless steel enclosure and washdown or corrosive conditions
- Ambient temperature below +45 °C
- 230 V supply with a 5 A fuse
- Cut-out and 394 x 178 mm footprint
- Condensate drain routing
- Whether a 115 V version is required instead
Installing and maintaining the DTS 3031SS 230V
Use stainless fasteners and the supplied gasket. Connect the cord whip to a suitably protected socket or hard-wire according to the site practice. Route the condensate drain so that it cannot spill on equipment.
Wash the housing with fresh water from time to time in coastal sites, check the condenser and clean it, and inspect the gasket for hardening or cracks. A damaged gasket loses the NEMA rating even if the unit itself is intact.
Typical DTS 3031SS 230V applications in Oman and the GCC
Oil and gas, power, desalination and petrochemical sites in Oman and the GCC put electrical enclosures in hot rooms, outdoor shelters and dusty yards. The stainless unit suits chemical dosing skids, water treatment panels, offshore and jetty cabinets, and food or beverage plant where washdown is routine.
DTS 3000 stainless and painted models
| Model | Supply | Article |
|---|---|---|
| DTS 3031SS 115V | 115 V | 13383144158 |
| DTS 3031SS 230V | 230 V | 13383141158 |
| DTS 3081 230V | 230 V | 13382341178 |
| DTS 3181 230V | 230 V | 13385441158 |
Installation on stainless enclosures deserves care. Avoid mixing metals in the fixings so that galvanic corrosion does not start at the contact points, and seal any cut edges. When the cabinet is hosed down regularly, orient the unit so that the air inlet and outlet do not face the direction of the water jet, and make sure that the cord whip and plug are protected from spray. A drip loop in the cable stops water running along it into the connection. Replace the gasket when it ages, using the original part, to preserve the stated protection class.
Before ordering, compare the real heat load with the capacity of 322 W. Add up the power losses of every device in the cabinet, because most of the electrical power drawn by drives, power supplies and relays ends up as heat. If the total is close to the limit, the next model of the NEMA range gives headroom, and it is better to select the larger unit than to run a small one continuously at its limit. Remember also that solar gain on a stainless steel cabinet in direct sun can add several hundred watts on a summer afternoon, so a sunshade over the cabinet and the unit is a cheap way to reduce the load.

About brand
Pfannenberg is the German maker of thermal management and signalling products for electrical enclosures and industry: filter fans, cooling units, air-to-water heat exchangers, chillers, heaters, sirens and beacons. Otto Pfannenberg, an electrical engineer, founded the company in Hamburg in 1954, and in 1958 he invented the filter fan to stop components in control cabinets from overheating. Pfannenberg is still family-owned and headquartered in Hamburg.
