Gullco GK-R-300 KAT 300 Welding Carriage with Radial Oscillation

Description

A track-mounted carriage with radial weld oscillation

The Gullco GK-R-300 is a KAT® 300 welding carriage combined with a radial weld oscillation head. The carriage runs on track and moves a welding gun or torch along the joint at a controlled speed, forward or reverse, so that travel speed and torch position stay the same from the start of a weld to its end. Gullco describes the KAT 300 as a re-engineered version of its KAT weld oscillation carriage, smaller and lighter than previous models.

The radial oscillator swings the torch through an oscillation width adjustable from 0.8 to 45°, at a speed of 1–45° per second. Dwell can be set independently at each end and at the centre of the stroke, infinitely variable from 0 to 5 seconds, and the oscillator control provides an Auto Arc Start function.

Carriage, track and torch positioning

Heavy-duty quick-action self-aligning wheels and two paddle locks mount the carriage on the track and keep it correctly seated. A quick clutch mechanism, a machined dovetail racking system with a locking rack box, and a torch holder with position memory allow tool-less setup and let the operator remove the torch for cleaning and return it to the same position.

Travel speed is controlled by a 24 V Gullco microprocessor with conformal-coated, ingress-protected circuit boards. The control has a forward, stop and reverse switch, high-speed return, an infinitely variable multi-turn speed potentiometer and an LED display. The carriage is compatible with existing Gullco rigid track and with the semi-rigid track, made from extruded aluminium with a fixed steel rack, which can be formed for curved surfaces down to a minimum diameter of 24 ft (7,315 mm), inside or outside.

Selecting the configuration

The supply voltage is part of the order: Gullco lists 42 VAC, 115 VAC and 230 VAC models. The KAT 300 is also built with a linear oscillation head, the GK-L-300, which has a 1.5 in stroke and 8 to 188 cycles per minute; compare the two heads against the welding procedure before ordering.

Track length and track type, mounting devices such as magnets or vacuum mounts, and the gun or torch holder are separate Gullco accessories and should be listed with the carriage. Gullco states that the KAT is compatible with all welding power sources and wire feeders, but the gun, cable lengths and arc signal connection still need to be confirmed for the equipment on site. For pipe girth welding, Gullco offers a separate KAT 300-PW pipe welding version.

About brand
Gullco International was formed in 1954 to serve the welding industry in North America and is a family-owned company with its world headquarters in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. It manufactures welding and cutting automation, plate beveling machines, ceramic weld backing and electrode ovens. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists the Gullco GK-R-300 KAT 300 welding carriage and sources Gullco equipment for fabricators.

Gullco product groups

The best-known line is the KAT® family of welding and cutting carriages, which run on rigid, semi-rigid or flexible track and can carry weld oscillators, auto-weld and indexing functions, plasma or flame cutting torches and seam trackers. Gullco also builds MOGGY® trackless carriages, KBM plate beveling machines, gantry systems, KATBAK® ceramic weld backing and electrode stabilising ovens.

Ordering Gullco equipment: what we need

Give the Gullco item number, which includes the model option, and the supply voltage. For carriages, list the track type and length, the mounting devices and the torch or gun holder you need. For KATBAK backing, state the joint type, plate thickness and tile profile.
