Gullco KAT 100 GK-100-W Welding Automation Carriage

Description

Entry-level rigid-track carriage for mechanised welding and cutting

The Gullco KAT 100 GK-100-W is the welding version of the KAT 100 series, the simplest carriage in Gullco’s KAT mechanised automation range. It travels on rigid KAT track and carries a MIG/MAG gun or other welding torch along the joint at a set speed, giving a more consistent travel speed and torch angle than manual welding. Gullco positions the KAT 100 as an entry-level carriage with simple setup and minimal control complexity that can be integrated quickly into welding and cutting applications.

The carriage is driven by a low-voltage 24 VDC permanent magnet gear motor that engages the track through spur gears. A clutch lever lets the carriage free-wheel for rapid positioning, and the low-voltage control with switch mode power supply improves operator safety. The GK-100-W has two auxiliary ports for use with the arc start cable accessory, so the welding torch and carriage travel start together.

GSP-1100 control functions

The GSP-1100 control applies regenerative braking to the motor when switched to STOP, overriding all other controls and bringing the carriage to a dead stop for precise control of the weld or cut end point. Tach feedback continuously monitors and corrects motor speed, so travel speed stays constant regardless of load variation. The control provides forward, neutral and reverse travel, variable speed within the full range, and an LED that shows when the carriage is powered and ready.

Accessories and typical set-ups

Gullco lists these accessories for the KAT 100: GK-165-068 cutting torch holder for 1 3/8 in (35 mm) torches with 32 pitch rack, GK-010-031-TV on/off gas toggle valve for acetylene torches, GK-171-047-2 rack arm 18 in (457.2 mm), GK-171-650 heavy-duty rack box 10 in (254 mm), rigid track in 48, 96 and 120 in (1219, 2438 and 3048 mm) lengths, GK-165-215 on/off magnet assemblies with 150 lb (45 kg) holding power each, GK-165-074-2 four-motion semi-automatic torch holder with 5 in (127 mm) vertical adjustment, and the GK-184-200 circle cutting accessory with a 36 in radius arm.

Typical uses are long horizontal and vertical fillet or butt welds on plate, stiffeners, tanks and beams, where the track is mounted with magnets. Where weave or oscillation is needed, the Gullco KAT 300 GK-R-300 with radial oscillation is the larger alternative.

About brand

Gullco International was formed in 1954 to serve the welding industry in North America and is a family-owned company with its world headquarters in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. It manufactures welding and cutting automation, plate beveling machines, ceramic weld backing and electrode ovens. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Gullco KAT and MOGGY carriages and KBM plate bevelling machines, including the GK-R-300 KAT 300 welding carriage, and sources Gullco equipment for fabricators.

Gullco product groups

The best-known line is the KAT® family of welding and cutting carriages, which run on rigid, semi-rigid or flexible track and can carry weld oscillators, auto-weld and indexing functions, plasma or flame cutting torches and seam trackers. Gullco also builds MOGGY® trackless carriages, KBM plate beveling machines, gantry systems, KATBAK® ceramic weld backing and electrode stabilising ovens.

Ordering Gullco equipment: what we need

Give the Gullco item number, which includes the model option, and the supply voltage. For carriages, list the track type and length, the mounting devices and the torch or gun holder you need. For KATBAK backing, state the joint type, plate thickness and tile profile.
