Koike Aronson MD30 Tilt/Turn Welding Positioner

Description

Mid-size tilt/turn positioner with powered 135° tilt

The Koike Aronson MD30 is a 3,000 lb tilt/turn/rotate welding positioner from the US-built MD Series. It offers powered forward tilt to 135 degrees and variable-speed rotation, both driven by AC brake motors under variable frequency drive control with over-travel protection. An internal geared slew ring gives smooth, controlled rotation, the electrical enclosure is dust-tight NEMA 12, and the unit runs from a 115 V single-phase supply, which makes it easy to install in most fabrication shops.

The square worktable has radial T-slots, a 2-3/4 in pilot for part location and a through-hole for purge routing, and a 550 A sliding ground shoe carries welding current. A low-voltage hand pendant with built-in E-stop on a 20 ft cable controls tilt, rotation and speed.

MD Series models compared

Model Rating at 4 in Table Tilt time to 135° Rotation Supply
MD15 1,500 lb 24 x 24 in 22 s 0.23 – 2.3 RPM 115/1/60
MD30 3,000 lb 30 x 30 in 50 s 0.20 – 2.0 RPM 115/1/60
MD50 5,000 lb 36 x 36 in 40 s 0.20 – 2.0 RPM 460/3/60

The tilt rating falls quickly as the centre of gravity rises above the table, so tall fixtures should be checked against the CG table rather than the headline capacity. Options include a variable-diameter tachometer HMI that shows RPM and surface speed and accepts speed targets, a radio-controlled pendant, welding chucks and grippers, and forward/reverse, variable-speed or wireless foot switches.

Choosing between the three sizes is mainly a question of load and CG height. The MD15 suits lighter assemblies on a 24 in table and also runs from 115 V. The MD30 doubles the rated load and adds a larger 30 in table with a 38 in maximum clamping diameter, while keeping single-phase supply. The MD50 moves to 460 V three phase, a 36 in table and a 47 in clamping diameter, with a higher tilt torque of 67,500 lb-in. All three share the pin-through height adjustment, NEMA 12 electricals, 20 ft pendant cable and 550 A ground shoe, so operators trained on one size can work on the others without retraining.

About brand

Koike Aronson, Inc. of Arcade, New York, builds cutting machines, welding positioning equipment, portable cutting and welding carriages, and gas equipment. The company was established in 1985, when Japan's Koike Sanso Kogyo acquired the Aronson Machine Co.. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat that lists the IK-12 Beetle and sources Koike Aronson portable machines and positioning equipment.

Koike Aronson product groups

The program spans CNC plasma, oxy-fuel, laser and waterjet cutting machines; portable track-guided cutting and welding carriages such as the IK-12 and IK-72 series; and positioners, turning rolls, manipulators and head and tailstocks for welding work. Gas apparatus, machine torches and cutting tips are offered alongside.

Ordering Koike Aronson equipment: what we need

Give the machine model and kit part number, the fuel gas you use and the site power supply. For positioning equipment, add the workpiece weight, centre of gravity and diameter. We check the selection against Koike documentation and provide the manufacturer's literature on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Koike MD30 carry?
3,000 lb at 4 in centre-of-gravity height and 4 in eccentricity; tilt rating stays 3,000 lb up to 6 in CG height.
What supply voltage does the MD30 use?
115 V, single phase, 60 Hz. The MD50 uses 460 V three phase.
How fast is the tilt?
The MD30 tilts through 135 degrees in 50 seconds using an AC brake motor driven by a variable frequency drive.
What is the rotation speed range?
0.20 to 2.0 RPM from an AC variable frequency drive.
How is the working height adjusted?
A manual pin-through post gives 12 in of lift in 4 in increments, from 32-1/2 to 44-1/2 in table height on the MD30.
