Gullco KAT GK-200-RMC-A Auto-Weld Welding Carriage

Description

The Gullco KAT GK-200-RMC-A is a KAT travel carriage with the Auto-Weld control, configured for rigid KAT track, the medium speed range and a 230 VAC supply. Auto-Weld turns the carriage into a programmable welding cycle: it measures distance travelled, responds to limit switches on the carriage and to activators fixed on the track, and synchronises travel with weld start and stop.

Programmable stitch and seam cycles on KAT track

By combining control settings with the positions of the limit switch activators, the same carriage can run many repeatable cycles in any plane: a single seam with automatic return home, back-and-forth seams, or electronically programmed stitch welds. Three limit switches on the carriage handle forward, reverse and centre (weld start positioning and weld on/off). Adjustable park and end activators mount on rigid or flexible KAT track; the centre activator is supplied by the user.

The carriage has heavy-duty self-aligning wheels and closed-loop tachometer feedback, so speed holds in any position up to its 100 lb (45 kg) load. The 24 V GSP microprocessor control has a forward/stop/reverse switch, four-turn speed potentiometer, LED display in in/min or cm/min, and a ten-position rotary switch for the settings.

Speed and voltage codes

The Auto-Weld code is GK-200-, then R (rigid) or F (flexible track), the speed letter, the voltage letter (A 42 V, B 115 V, C 230 V) and -A. Speed ranges from the brochure:

Speed letter Rigid track (GK-200-R?-A) Flex track (GK-200-F?-A)
L 0.5–16.4 in/min (1.2–41.6 cm/min) 0.8–25.8 in/min (2–65.4 cm/min)
M 1–32.7 in/min (2.5–83.1 cm/min) 1.5–51.5 in/min (3.9–131 cm/min)
H 2.7–88.4 in/min (6.7–224 cm/min) 4.2–139.1 in/min (10.6–353 cm/min)

An optional remote pendant control kit moves the GSP control to a pendant on an 8 ft cable. For weave beads, Gullco offers KAT carriages with oscillation, such as the Gullco GK-R-300.

Auto-Weld is useful wherever the same weld length and gap repeat many times, such as stiffener stitch welding, tank seams and long beams. The repeatability comes from distance measurement rather than operator timing.

Documents and quotation

The Gullco KAT Auto-Weld brochure is attached. More carriages are in Welding Robots & Automation.

For a quotation, give track type and length, required speed range, supply voltage, the welding cycle you need and whether the remote pendant kit is wanted.

About brand

Gullco International was formed in 1954 to serve the welding industry in North America and is a family-owned company with its world headquarters in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. It manufactures welding and cutting automation, plate beveling machines, ceramic weld backing and electrode ovens. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Gullco KAT and MOGGY carriages and KBM plate bevelling machines, including the GK-R-300 KAT 300 welding carriage, and sources Gullco equipment for fabricators.

Gullco product groups

The best-known line is the KAT® family of welding and cutting carriages, which run on rigid, semi-rigid or flexible track and can carry weld oscillators, auto-weld and indexing functions, plasma or flame cutting torches and seam trackers. Gullco also builds MOGGY® trackless carriages, KBM plate beveling machines, gantry systems, KATBAK® ceramic weld backing and electrode stabilising ovens.

Ordering Gullco equipment: what we need

Give the Gullco item number, which includes the model option, and the supply voltage. For carriages, list the track type and length, the mounting devices and the torch or gun holder you need. For KATBAK backing, state the joint type, plate thickness and tile profile.
