E2S BExS110 Explosion Proof Alarm Horn Sounder

A flameproof alarm horn for Zone 1, 2, 21 and 22 plant areas

The E2S BExS110 is an Ex d explosion proof alarm horn sounder with a flare re-entrant horn in a corrosion-proof, marine-grade, copper-free LM6 aluminium enclosure. It gives sound output of up to 117 dB(A) at 1 metre, with a choice of 32 alarm tones and 3 remotely selectable stages, and is approved to IECEx, ATEX, Ex EAC and INMETRO standards. SIL 1 and SIL 2 versions are available. For fire applications, the BExS110D 24 V dc siren is stated to be MED compliant and EN54-3 tested.

Typical uses are process plant, tank farms, offshore and onshore platforms, loading terminals and pump stations where the general alarm, toxic gas alarm or abandon-platform tone must be audible over machinery noise.

Ordering code and versions

The part code is built from the product type, horn type (DF), supply voltage (DC012, DC024, DC048, AC115, AC230), cable entry (A to G), stopping plug and adaptor material (brass, nickel-plated or stainless steel), bracket material (A2 304 or A4 316, with or without equipment tag), product version and enclosure colour. Versions are A1 default (SIL 1 and SIL 2 Route 2H), M1 MED (24 V dc only), P1 stage programmable, S1 SIL 2 Route 1H with diagnostics and T1 tropicalised. Accessories listed are the SP65-0001-A4 pole mount bracket kit and the SP65-0003-A4 sunshade, both in 316 stainless steel.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm the gas group (IIB or IIC) and ambient temperature, which set the allowed T4 rating, the supply voltage, the cable gland thread, the tone and stage plan agreed with the plant alarm philosophy, and whether a SIL claim is needed. E2S advises additional tropicalisation where high humidity and high ambient temperature occur together. How the E2S BExS110 works

An electronic oscillator drives a horn driver inside the flameproof enclosure. The sound leaves through a flare re-entrant horn that boosts the output. A switch selects the tone, and the stage inputs let the control system change the alarm remotely. A wide range of supplies is available.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the BExS110

Fix the horn with the bell pointing down or across. Fit a suitable gland to one M20 entry and close the second with the plug. Wire the supply to the terminals. Set the tone with the selector and test the sound level at the listener.
