Danfoss 175G5165 MCD 201 Compact Soft Starter 7 kW 200-440 V
Description
MCD 201 7 kW compact starter: the smallest A-frame starter for pumps and fans
Danfoss 175G5165 is a VLT Compact Starter MCD 201 for three-phase 200 to 440 V supplies. The type code MCD201007T4CV3 gives the rated power as 7 kW and the control supply as CV3, which the store lists as 110/240 V AC or 440 V AC. It is a soft starter, not a variable-speed drive, so it reduces the starting current and torque but does not control the running speed.
The unit sits in A-frame and weighs 2.2 kg. The MCD 201 is a basic compact starter and is normally used for fixed-speed motors where the wider feature set of the MCD 600 is not required.

When a compact soft starter is the right tool
A 7 kW starter is typical for small booster pumps, fans, compressors and conveyors. The store text for this code also prints 18 A, which is the rated current to compare with a motor of about this size, so use the nameplate current of your motor to confirm the match.
Compared with a star-delta starter, a soft starter gives a smoother start without the current spike at the changeover, and compared with a drive it costs less when speed control is not needed. The operating instructions describe the wiring of the power terminals L1, L2, L3 and T1, T2, T3 and the control terminals.
Practical notes
Match the starter to the motor current, not to the kW alone. Check the starting duty: frequent starts or high-inertia loads can overheat a compact starter, and a larger unit or a bypassed model may be needed. The instructions list fault indications for the main circuit, the supply frequency and the thyristor stage.
A branch-circuit protection and a main contactor or isolator are required; the starter does not replace them. The attached instructions are multilingual, as published by the manufacturer.
Small compact starters are often bought in groups for a row of identical pumps or fans. If your panel uses a standard control voltage, tell us which one, because the CV3 code covers 110/240 V AC or 440 V AC and the correct terminals must be used. Keep the wiring diagram with the panel and record the type code of each starter, so that a replacement can be matched quickly during a shutdown.
Please treat the values on this page as a summary of the manufacturer data and verify them against the attached document for your application. If anything in your enquiry does not match the page, tell us and we will check it before a quotation is issued for 175G5165.
Ordering notes
Please confirm supply voltage, motor current, control voltage and starts per hour before ordering. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and can quote 175G5165. About brand
Danfoss is the Danish engineering group that makes refrigeration and air-conditioning controls, heating components, variable speed drives and mobile hydraulics. Mads Clausen founded it on 1 September 1933 at his parents' farm in Nordborg on the island of Als, after making his first refrigeration expansion valve in 1932. Nordborg is still the group's headquarters, and Danfoss remains controlled by the Clausen family through the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation.
Danfoss company profile
| Founded | 1 September 1933, Nordborg, Denmark, by Mads Clausen (1905–1966) |
|---|---|
| First product | Thermostatic expansion valve for refrigeration |
| Headquarters | Nordborg, Denmark |
| Ownership | Private; majority controlled by the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation and the Clausen family |
| Size | About 42,000 employees (2023) |
| Business segments | Danfoss Climate Solutions (refrigeration, air conditioning and heating), Danfoss Drives (VLT and VACON frequency converters, soft starters), Danfoss Power Solutions (mobile and industrial hydraulics) |
| Brands in the group | VLT, VACON, Eaton Hydraulics (bought 2021), Ikusi radio remote controls |
Milestones
- 1932–1933: First expansion valve; the company is founded in Nordborg.
- 1939: 26 employees. By the 10th anniversary in 1943 the company has 179.
- 1950s: Rapid growth turns Nordborg into a Danfoss town with housing and schools for its workforce.
- 1968: Danfoss launches its VLT frequency converter, one of the first mass-produced AC drives.
- 2014: Acquisition of the Finnish drives maker Vacon, now the VACON brand.
- 2021: Acquisition of Eaton's hydraulics business.
Choosing Danfoss products
For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.
Where Danfoss products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Danfoss drives run pumps, fans and compressors in district cooling plants, water and wastewater stations, desalination and building HVAC. Danfoss pressure switches, transmitters and solenoid valves are built into chillers, refrigeration plants, boilers and hydraulic systems, and AB-QM valves balance chilled-water circuits in large buildings.
