Lovato ADXL0060600 Soft Starter 60 A with Built-in Bypass
Description
Lovato ADXL0060600 soft starter, 60 A with built-in bypass
The Lovato ADXL0060600 is a soft starter for three-phase asynchronous motors with a rated current of 60 A and a built-in bypass. It supports supply voltages from 208 to 600 V AC and an IEC motor rating of 30 kW at 400 V. Seven Star LLC supplies the ADXL0060600 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
The code is read as ADXL for the family, 0060 for 60 A and 600 for the 600 V class. Two phases are controlled by thyristors, and the third passes straight through, which keeps the unit compact. Larger parts in the same family include the ADXL0085600 and the ADXL0115600, and a variant with 24 V auxiliary supply carries a 024 suffix.

How the ADXL0060600 starts a motor
Instead of applying full voltage, the starter uses thyristors to raise motor voltage gradually. In voltage-ramp mode the voltage grows in a set time, while in torque-ramp mode the controller estimates the torque and shapes it, which gives a smoother mechanical start for pumps and conveyors. A current limit can cap the starting current in either mode, protecting a weak supply or a generator.
When the motor reaches speed, the built-in bypass contacts close and carry the current, removing the thyristors from the circuit. Heat and losses then drop to a very low level, so the 60 A starter can sit in a normal panel with natural cooling or optional forced cooling. At stop, a torque ramp or a voltage ramp can slow the motor gently, which prevents water hammer in pumping lines.
Protection functions of the ADXL0060600
The motor protection set covers overload at start and during running with selectable trip classes, locked rotor, current asymmetry and minimum torque for dry-run detection. Supply protection includes phase loss, phase sequence, frequency and voltage limits. The starter protects itself against overcurrent, overtemperature, bypass failure, shorted phase, sensor failure and cooling fan failure, and it asks for maintenance with a counter.
ADXL0060600 in the control system
Three digital inputs accept start, stop, reset and other programmable functions; the third can be switched to a PTC thermistor input. Three outputs include a line contactor command, a run indication and a global alarm. A clock, event log, hour counter and start counter support maintenance. For other sizes the neighbours are the ADXL0045600 (45 A), ADXL0085600 (85 A) and ADXL0135600 (135 A).
ADXL0060600 selection checklist
- Motor nameplate current well within 60 A
- Supply voltage between 208 and 600 V AC
- Auxiliary supply of 100 to 240 V AC available
- Load type, to choose torque or voltage ramp
- Starts per hour, which sets the thermal sizing
- Ambient temperature and altitude derating
- Enclosure with IP20 or better, since the unit itself is IP00
Installing and commissioning the ADXL0060600
Mount vertically with the clearances given in the manual, by screws or on rail with the accessory EXP8003. Connect line to the input side, motor to the output, and feed the control supply separately. Because the housing is IP00, finger-safe covers or a closed panel are required.
Program the motor current, start ramp, current limit and trip class from the front keypad, or use NFC from a phone. Run an unloaded test, then a loaded start, and save the event log. Check the starter temperature after the first hours of operation.
Typical ADXL0060600 applications in Oman and the GCC
At 30 kW and 400 V, the starter suits water pumps, booster sets, fans and compressors at utilities, hotels and light industry. High site temperatures matter: above 40 °C the rated current falls by 0.5 percent per degree, so a hot panel in July will reduce capacity.
ADXL family members
| Part | Rated current | 400 V power |
|---|---|---|
| ADXL0045600 | 45 A | Smaller pumps |
| ADXL0060600 | 60 A | 30 kW |
| ADXL0085600 | 85 A | Medium pumps |
| ADXL0115600 | 115 A | 55 kW |
| ADXL0135600 | 135 A | Larger pumps |
Soft starters and variable speed drives are often compared. A soft starter controls only the starting and stopping of a motor at fixed speed, while a drive also changes speed in operation. For a pump or fan that always runs at full speed after start, the soft starter is simpler, smaller and cheaper in operating losses because the bypass removes the heat. If the process needs flow control, a drive from the VLB range is the better answer, and our team can discuss both options against the duty.

Lovato order codes describe the product. On a contactor such as BF0910A230, "BF09" is the frame and rated current (9 A in AC-3), "10" is the built-in auxiliary contact (one normally open), "A" means an AC coil and "230" is the coil voltage. The coil voltage must match the control circuit exactly, so it is the most common detail to check when replacing one. For motors, a soft starter limits the inrush current at start and stop, while a variable speed drive controls the speed continuously and saves energy on pumps and fans that do not need full flow all the time.
Where Lovato products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Lovato components are built into motor control centres, pump and HVAC panels, capacitor banks for power factor correction, generator and ATS panels, and machine control panels for industry, water and buildings.
