Lovato ADXT0104 Soft Starter 104 A, 380-690 V with Bypass
Description
Lovato ADXT0104 soft starter, 104 A, 380 to 690 V
The Lovato ADXT0104 is a three-phase soft starter with all three phases controlled, a built-in bypass and a rated current of 104 A on 380 to 690 V supplies. The in-line motor rating is 55 kW at 400 V, 75 kW at 500 V and 90 kW at 690 V. Seven Star LLC supplies the ADXT0104 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
The code means ADXT for the three-phase-controlled family and 0104 for 104 A. It differs from the ADXL series in voltage class, control method and the way it is cooled: the ADXT has a graphic LCD, a thermistor input, forced cooling and an analogue output. It is made for the medium voltage range found in industry rather than the 208 to 600 V band.

In-line and inside-delta connection of the ADXT0104
The table lists two ratings. When the starter is connected in line with the motor, the full motor current passes through it, giving 55 kW at 400 V. When it is wired inside the delta of the motor winding, only about 58 percent of the line current flows through the starter, so the same unit can handle a 75 kW motor at 400 V. This needs six motor leads and correct phase wiring, and the data sheet figures show the gain.
The inside-delta connection is useful when a larger motor would otherwise need the next frame size. Check that the motor connection box allows access to all six terminals and that the cabling distance is acceptable.
Start and stop functions of the ADXT0104
Adaptive control adjusts the ramp to the load in real time, current ramp and constant current manage line demand, and voltage ramp is the traditional method. On stopping, besides a voltage ramp and an adaptive ramp, the unit offers DC braking for loads with high inertia and a soft-stop mode with an external braking contactor.
Protections and signals of the ADXT0104
The unit watches for overload, locked rotor, current asymmetry, low current, low power, motor overtemperature through the thermistor input and starts that take too long. On the supply side it checks power loss, phase loss and sequence, frequency and voltage limits. A thyristor overtemperature and shorted phase check protect the starter. The analogue output can feed current or another measurement to a PLC, and four digital inputs include start/stop, reset and two programmable.
ADXT0104 selection checklist
- Voltage class of 380 to 690 V and the motor winding
- Motor current below 104 A in-line, or inside delta with six leads
- Starting duty and need for adaptive or braking functions
- Auxiliary supply of 110-120 V or 220-240 V AC
- Panel size of 152 x 336 x 233 mm and weight 5.5 kg
- Cooling and ambient temperature
- Thermistor wiring and remote keypad needs
Installing and commissioning the ADXT0104
Fix with screws and keep free air for the fan. Connect the thermistor, control inputs and relays following the terminal diagram, and set rated current before the first run. If used in delta, wire the six leads in the order indicated in the manual to avoid a wrong connection that the starter might not detect.
After the first start, review the event log and the starter temperature. Check the fan during routine rounds, since forced cooling is the part most sensitive to dust in outdoor panels.
Typical ADXT0104 applications in Oman and the GCC
This starter suits large pumps at power and desalination plants, crushers, fans and compressors at 690 V mining or industrial sites. The 690 V class, common on heavy industrial installations, widens its use beyond the 400 V buildings market, and the DC braking function helps with fans that are slow to stop.
ADXT family members
| Part | Note |
|---|---|
| ADXT0034 | Smaller frame |
| ADXT0084 | Smaller frame |
| ADXT0104 | 104 A, this part |
| ADXT0139 | Larger frame |
The thermistor input deserves a note. Many large motors carry PTC sensors embedded in the windings. Wiring them to the starter lets it trip on real winding temperature, which is more reliable than a current-based model alone and is a clear advantage in hot climates where cooling air is already warm. The analogue output can mirror motor current to a panel meter or PLC without extra transducers. Finally, plan for the weight of 5.5 kg and for the extra panel depth of 233 mm when laying out the enclosure, and allow room for the cable bend radius at the lower terminals.

Lovato order codes describe the product. On a contactor such as BF0910A230, "BF09" is the frame and rated current (9 A in AC-3), "10" is the built-in auxiliary contact (one normally open), "A" means an AC coil and "230" is the coil voltage. The coil voltage must match the control circuit exactly, so it is the most common detail to check when replacing one. For motors, a soft starter limits the inrush current at start and stop, while a variable speed drive controls the speed continuously and saves energy on pumps and fans that do not need full flow all the time.
Where Lovato products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Lovato components are built into motor control centres, pump and HVAC panels, capacitor banks for power factor correction, generator and ATS panels, and machine control panels for industry, water and buildings.
